Lightroom Mobile: Finding the Best Photos Feature

1 So here's a cool feature alert. 2 Inside of Lightroom mobile, 3 there is an option to choose best photos, 4 and I love it. 5 It's fun. It's not always accurate. 6 It's not always perfect, 7 but 80 so percent of the time I agree 8 with what it says. 9 So the way to function that, 10 or the way to get that is to just click on a album 11 and then click on this little triple dot button 12 and choose the best photos. 13 Now it's analyzing this set of photos 14 and it's gonna come up with 15 what it thinks are the best photos. 16 And it does it 17 based on kind of general rules of photography, 18 plus it's analyzing photos all the time. 19 And Adobe has a whole stock area, 20 and so they are analyzing people's interaction 21 with millions and millions and millions of stock photos. 22 And so as people interact with them 23 and as they search for something 24 and then they find stuff and they click on stuff, 25 Adobe's artificial intelligence 26 has the ability to kind of watch that 27 and...

see, Ooh, what do people actually respond to 28 when it comes to images?" 29 That's how it knows what is best. 30 And so it is based on human interaction 31 with millions of photos. 32 So it does a pretty good job. 33 And you can see there's a quality threshold option here. 34 This threshold option is much more robust 35 if you go to the web version of Lightroom. 36 So if you go to Lightroom web, 37 the same option is there, but it's actually more robust. 38 This one is just one little slider. 39 And so it's interesting 40 that it actually takes a pretty low threshold 41 to get my favorite image in there. 42 But these are the ones it's chosen. 43 These are the ones that it has said are less than the best. 44 And that's funny 45 because a lot of these backgrounds I like a lot, 46 but for different reasons. 47 And so it's showing me my best photos here. 48 So I'm gonna increase the quality threshold for a second 49 and see if I go all the way to the top, what is it? 50 Not all the way to the top, 51 because if I just go to all the way to the top, 52 I don't get very many. 53 Let's go to there. 54 You can see that it chose this one, 55 which I really like. 56 I really like this one. 57 I thought that was interesting. 58 It chose some people, 59 so it knows that we were on vacation basically. 60 And then it did choose this one. 61 And so I'm just gonna choose that one 62 and play around with it really quickly 63 and see what I get out of it. 64 So I'm gonna go to the color option, 65 turn it to black and white 66 simply because I think this would be an interesting photo 67 to have in black and white 68 because it's gotta be so graphic. 69 Then I'm gonna go back up to the light 70 and I'm going to bring up the shadows just enough 71 so that we see a hint of information here. 72 And then I'm gonna go to the effects 73 and I'm going to really increase the clarity 74 'cause I want this to really be quite punchy. 75 I'm actually gonna make a mask 76 and go see if it can grab the sky, which I'm sure it can. 77 There it goes. It grabs the sky. 78 And then I'm gonna go in and see what I can do 79 with that sky. 80 There. That's nice. 81 I like the idea of just pulling in. 82 You can even see that it's starting 83 to almost see the clouds. 84 So it does a pretty decent job at grabbing that sky. 85 So if I double click any of these, 86 so if I take an exposure up, 87 if I double click it, it goes back to zero. 88 So I'm just gonna take the highlights down just a little bit 89 and the white down just a little bit 90 so that it's just more of a muted sky, 91 not quite so intense. 92 And hit done. 93 So I like what I'm getting here. 94 I just need to do some cropping on it. 95 So I'm gonna crop up here a little bit. 96 And I'm actually gonna turn off the lock 97 so that I can crop this exactly the way I want it 98 as opposed to having to stay within the original 99 two by three aspect ratio. 100 Good, good crop. 101 Interesting photo. I like it.

Jared Platt is the best educator when it comes to explaining how and when to use each program in the Lightroom ecosystem. He knows and explains extremely well the pros, cons, and tricks of using LrC, Lr, & LrMobile together. Most people teach each independently. Jared teaches in depth knowledge of how they interact --amazing!
