Lesson Info

Lightroom Classic: Cleaning Up

1 So now we have four images. 2 We like the images, I'm excited about 'em. 3 I want to start sharing them. 4 I want to get feedback from people on them. 5 And so at this point, I kind of have to start finalizing 6 and cleaning up things before I start giving them to people 7 or exporting 'em or asking people's opinions on 'em. 8 I need to make sure that they're clean 9 and ready to present to the public. 10 So the first thing that I have to do is rename them. 11 So I'm gonna highlight all of these images. 12 I can hit the F2 key, or I could go up to library 13 and I could go to Rename Photos. 14 So when you come to the renaming option, 15 you have a dropdown list 16 that gives you all sorts of different options. 17 You can edit this and you can name things 18 however you want them. 19 This one currently does a sequence with a custom text. 20 Generally speaking, what I do is 21 I just have one of these that's just a sequence. 22 It's all it is, and so it starts at 1, ends at 4, done. ...

23 I've got 1 through 4. That's great. 24 That's how I rename all of my images 25 that are going out to clients, like for a wedding 26 or for a portrait or something like that, 27 simply because I put them in proof books 28 and I want the proof book to just have a number. 29 I don't want it to have like a big long name. 30 I just want it to be 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 with the zeros on it. 31 That's less confusing to a client to see that number 32 than some big long name. 33 So later on, when I save these for myself as portfolio items 34 and things like that, that's when I will extend the name 35 and make it longer so it's more useful to me. 36 But right now, I just want people to see the number, okay? 37 And we'll show you how to do the cleanup for archival later. 38 So right now we're in the sharing phase, 39 then we'll go to archiving phase. 40 Okay, now that I've got my images renamed, 41 I can start sharing these images out to people. 42 And the first way that we're gonna share 'em 43 is simply go back to our collection. 44 Because remember, the collection is already in the cloud. 45 In fact, all of the adjustments that we've just made 46 are also already in the cloud. 47 And so if I were to go to my iPad 48 and I were to go to all of my albums, you can see 49 that there's a Jared Platt self portrait here 50 and there are 33 images inside of my self portrait. 51 And if I do a filter, 52 so I search for anything that's been picked, 53 there are my four images. 54 And if I click on that third one, 55 you can see that I've done all of my work on it, 56 and I've even adjusted it 57 so that there is a lens blur back there. 58 And you can see that the lens blur amount is at 83. 59 That's exactly what I chose inside of Lightroom Classic. 60 So everything has come in to my iPad 61 and it's there, it's ready for me. 62 And so that's great, 63 but I want to get rid of all that other stuff. 64 And so I'm going to first highlight all these images 65 and then I'm gonna right click 'em. 66 And I don't wanna have to go look around 67 'cause I've got a lot of collections. 68 So if I highlight 'em 69 and I just go down to Go To Collection, 70 that's the collection that they're in, click on it 71 and make sure I go right to it, see that? 72 I'm right there, and I'm going to, 73 instead of searching for the picked images, 74 I'm gonna turn that off up here in the attributes. 75 And I'm gonna look just for the rejected 76 and the unpicked images. 77 I'm gonna highlight all these images and hit the delete key. 78 Don't worry, it didn't delete the photos, 79 it just deleted the reference inside of this collection, 80 we call 'em albums in Lightroom Web and Lightroom, 81 but inside of Lightroom Classic, we call them collections. 82 So now our collection only has four images in it. 83 Great. That's exactly what I want it to have. 84 Those are the selected images. 85 And at this point we have now 86 a collection that I could share.

Jared Platt is the best educator when it comes to explaining how and when to use each program in the Lightroom ecosystem. He knows and explains extremely well the pros, cons, and tricks of using LrC, Lr, & LrMobile together. Most people teach each independently. Jared teaches in depth knowledge of how they interact --amazing!
