Repeat Grid
Hi everyone. Welcome to the video. About repeat grids, repeat grids are one of X. DX like secret super duper awesome powers. Watch this. I've made this little card here. I'm gonna make three of them four no three and drag them out and just kind of repeats forever. Really handy for repetitive like search results or these kind of cards for this dashboard make some quick and easy. You can adjust them really easy but you can go into them and make like little simple changes. Can you see this one is 3000. That one's 1000. Really handy. Let's jump in and see how to make it all right to get started with our repeat grid. We're going to do it on the dashboard. I'm going to borrow this text here, copy it on this one, paste it. This is going to be my dashboard page dashboard dash good. And he's left align text. Even. Cool. So we need to draw the first unit. Okay. And we're gonna be dealing with these things called cards. Cards are just a term used to describe like a nice little unit. So let's have...
a look at this example here. So this is one of the examples in your exercise files under U. Y. Kits and let's have a look. There's a bunch of cards in this one. So see this little unit here. It's got like let's have a look there's a better one. This is a typical nice typical one. It's got like this white box. Got this little like graphic in the top images. It's gotta like it's a unit. It's a reusable repurpose double unit. Okay. They're called cards. And this one here is quite a card as well. There have been lots on cell phones as well. But we're looking at web ones at the moment. So let's make our own little wireframe card and it's gonna be ugly. Remember? No design. Just some basic stuff. So I'm going to draw out a white box, I'm gonna grab some text elements. I'm gonna zoom this up because it's not very exciting. Alright, we're back. Just made some basic text and actually this is going to be dollar signs. Cool. And the one thing I will note in there is that I did use the resizing text for remember as long as it's point text, you can use a black arrow to do that. It's kind of cool. And I made it bold. That's it. So I've got this card and I want to repeat it. You can copy and paste it. That works okay. Black arrow copy paste by the repeat grid is one of the neat tricks that XD has. And what it is is you select all of your text with your black arrow, then grab this one here that says repeat grid in the top right hand corner and you just drag any corner, any side at the bottom of the top. Ready city. It's just magic. You're like how magic is that? Just duplicate it. I can do that. But look, does it down here as well. You're still still partly impressed. Where it gets quite impressive is the kind of spacing. Watch this. I've done nothing. I'm still in the same arrow, but when I start having my cursor between these guys, you can start to see, look at that. Okay, so you can start to see that one. I'm going to drag it. Can you see that little number over here? He's here there. So I'm gonna get to say, let's say I want them to, I'm gonna turn on my shortcut command shift. Apostrophe. Okay. Or control shift. Apostrophe on a pc. Okay. I'm going to drag it in so they line up there, You can see how useful that is and it's 20. Okay. I clicked on it and you can see 20 at the tub. I can't really point it there so I can adjust this 1 to 20. I need to see that side there. So they're both at 20. So I got this nice even spacing if you've ever done the distribute centers, fun game in illustrator or in design or any program that's not fun at all. So the repeat is just real handy for that. Where it's also really good is it's kind of like a symbol, which this, if I move it, if I double click it to go inside. This first one can say they all are connected. I can do little changes so I can do things like this one here is now and they don't update. So you can do some like this one here is called stats, this one is called forecasts, you can do you know text adjustments and they can all be unique. Okay and you can still use this repeat grid. If you need some more watch this, click out, take it back on and it's still this repeat grid, you can see it's repeating it lovely, okay but you can do some little text amends to make them all kind of look and feel individual. We'll do some more hardcore repeat grids later on when we start using things like images and pulling from CSP files, it gets, you can be pretty hardcore with it but for the moment it's just a really quick easy trick for doing repeating anything. We could have done it for this text over here but I wanted to do it for something a little bit more exciting like these cards, one thing to do though is say you do need to physically you know you need this one to be over here and this one to be different. You often you'll need to um group these things so I'm gonna click off in the background, click on it once there's an option up here that says um group the grid Okay and that just kind of breaks it all apart so it's no you can't do that repeat grid thing anymore, it's still one big unit. So you cannon group it right click on group and then you've got all these kind of like different parts to it now which is quite cool. So you might just use the repeat good to kind of get it in there, duplicate them quite a few times. Get the alignment or nice and then un group them and work away. I'm going to undo that because I wanted to be back to this repeat grid just in case later on. I'm like actually I need a couple more of these or I need to adjust the spacing because I've played around with this left nav. How many do you need in this example to follow me? It doesn't matter up to you. Cool. So that's the introduction to the repeat grid. Let's get on to the next video.

Thank you, Dan Scott, for providing such a beautiful Adobe XD course. I completed the course today and noticed a couple of things that are missing. I want to share them here so that you can upgrade the course, which would be helpful for us. Hover state and toggle state. Dragging pages from 1-2 to 2-3 and then back from 3-2 to 2-1 with dragging is not working. Another thing is that we learned scrolling the website from top to bottom, but scrolling or pushing things from right to left has been completely omitted. These are the things I have noticed, and I would like you to upgrade them so that we can improve our Adobe XD skills.
