A Conversation With One Person

throughout this course, we will discuss many technical aspects of a good voice over performance. But the most important part of being a voice over actor is that we speak from the heart, not from the head. And that's what we'll discuss in this lesson in all of our deliveries or voiceover projects. We should always imagine we are speaking to one person because when we do that, every person listening to our voice over thinks they are that one person. And this is what will make your recordings engaging for your listeners. Now, the best way to explain this further is for me to give you an example. I'm going to read this script for you and then we'll discuss it further. Breast cancer doesn't just affect women, Consider the families and friends whose lives are also changed in the us alone over 215,000 women and 1500 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year and over 40,000 will die. a minimum of 85 cents of every dollar donated goes directly to cancer research and awareness, programs. The breast cancer Research Foundation prevention and a cure in our lifetime. Now, if you're listening to that read, you might be thinking, wow, that was pretty good. I have a pleasant voice and a command for the information, but I'm going to tell you that if I turned that read in as an audition, I would not get hired for the job. And the reason is that I spoke with a concentration on the sound of my voice rather than who I was talking to. So I'm going to read this again for you and show you the difference. Breast cancer doesn't just affect women. Consider the families and friends whose lives are also changed in the US alone. Over 215,000 women And 1500 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year And over 40,000 will die. We cannot rest until we win the battle against breast cancer at the breast Cancer Research Foundation. A minimum of 85 cents of every dollar donated goes directly to breast cancer research and awareness programs, the breast cancer Research Foundation prevention and a cure in our lifetime. Did you notice how different the second read made you feel? Were you more engaged in the message? And did you feel more like we were having a conversation rather than you should be taking notes and we're being told where to go. This is the key to delivering a good voice over. Try it yourself in your package, the breast Cancer Research Foundation script is your first script. Open that script and try it out. Make sure you read out loud and simply ask yourself two questions. Who am I talking to and why are we having this conversation? And there are no wrong answers and you're read will change depending on how you answer those questions being clear about those two answers will help make sure you're reading from the heart and not from the head. So play with the answers and enjoy practicing your first script. In the next video, we'll get the voice ready for the day in the studio.
