Location Challenges: How to shoot Waterfalls
Waterfalls. So, waterfall, moving water, foreground. Again, capture that movement in the water. So, where do these tend to look best? What can we do to help ourselves with waterfalls? What we want to try to do is no direct sunlight. Direct sunlight is gonna wreak havoc on our waterfalls. So there's so many times where sunny-ish weather is what we're looking for. If I'm gonna shoot a waterfall that day, really overcast weather is kind of the best day to shoot it. Because if you look at these photos, they're all overcast. There's no direct light. This photo, the photo you see on the left there. There's a little hint of sunlight on, you can't see it here, but on that far right side, there's a little hint of sunlight there. But I don't want sun on the water. You don't want direct sun on the water because in order to capture movement in the water you gotta do a longer shutter speed, right? And so what's gonna happen if there's sun on it? Or a really bright hot spot? So, we want to try to ca...
pture our waterfalls either before the sun gets too high or on a cloudy overcast day. But if you start to get those little dappled spots on it, it takes away from the waterfall. And then longer exposure, but not too long. We talked about that, too.

This class was for beginners and I believe Matt did a great job of giving students an great introduction to landscape photography. More on the practical than technical side, but that seems appropriate for an intro class. He comes across as a "real" guy who loves what he does and is eager to share his knowledge. Those new to photography will get a lot of helpful information and tips in this course.
