Google Search Console

in this lesson we are going to talk about google search console which is also called google web master tools and what this is is a free resource that's available to anyone who has google analytics installed on their website. And it's a great resource to track any technical issues that you've encountered on your website. If you have google search console set up, you can open that now to follow along. So once you have google search console open you'll be taken here to the homepage which is the status page. And here you can see the performance of your site which primarily gives you traffic metrics. And then you can also see index coverage. So that gives you a snapshot of how many pages you have with errors and then how many valid pages you have. If you want to look at these in more detail. You can click here on open reports and then you can drill in and see what the types of errors are. And here below you can see what the status of those errors are. So this is really handy when you're doi...

ng a technical audit. If we go back to the performance section then we can see a lot more details about the actual performance of the site. And this is when we return to the discussion of results and KPI S. So here you can see both the clicks and the total impressions metrics and you can also see CTR or click through rate and then average position with technical S. C. O. And all sc. Oh you really want to pay attention to this average position metric and you can slice and dice and look at different metrics on the same graph. Then you can scroll down and you can see all of the search terms that are guiding people to your site and those are under the queries tab here and you can see that they are also sliced and diced against different metrics like impressions. Ctr click through right position. You can also look at these same metrics by landing page can drill into countries here and then also see the device split between desktop mobile and tablet. Which can also be really important under this last tab here which is search appearance. This is where you will see if you have anything implemented like schema structured data that will appear here under search appearance and you can see the impressions, click through rate in position for all of those metrics. Then if we go into the site map section this is where you can add a new site map for your site. So you can upload your own site map. And then once it's submitted you can check the status of that site map. So you can see whether google has index this site map and whether there are any issues with it. And then if we navigate to the last tab in the new google search console which is the U. R. L. Inspection. We can type any ural on the site into the search bar here. It will retrieve data from the google index and then we can see a much more detailed page on the results and what google how google is evaluating this page. So for example here we can see that google is actually not finding this particular landing page. So that's definitely something that we want to learn more about. So we can click, learn more here and that'll take us to google support page and that will give us more common possibilities as to why that girl is not being found on google and we can scroll down here and see index coverage here so we can see that it's not found 404 error. That's something we will also talk about later and how to resolve that. We can see when it was last crawled um whether it was failed, whether indexing is allowed, whether there are canonical is in place and then we can see at the bottom here under enhancements, whether there is schema in place for this page. So if you do have access to a website that has google search console set up, you can navigate to that now and then click on the index coverage section and that's a great place to start to start tabulating how many errors and warnings are on the site and that will give you a great baseline to start your technical seO audit
