Myers Briggs: Sensing and Intuition
Let's move on to sensing and intuition. So sensing is when, sensing people are people who actually read manuals for the most part. They need all the information and only when they have all the information they can then go and say. So now that I know everything I need to know now I can tell you what's going on with that. And intuitive is somebody who is, intuition is like I just need enough information to fill in the blanks. So that's the person that goes I got it, I got it, I got it, I don't need to hear the simple. Don't bother me with the lengthy explanation I got it. So that's somebody who uses intuition. And this is, you know and again, here is no judgment of who is who because you need people that have that quick sense of how do I fill in things. Because sometimes when you don't have all the information that can be creativity and energy flow. And sometimes when you don't have all the information there is miscommunication. So again ideally on my teams I wanna have both people and I...
want to give them equally an opportunity to speak because then I see both sides to the story. So somebody who is sensing is here in the now today. Facts matter, they need all the information. There's nothing to guess and they're okay with theories but they have to sort of be proven theories, they can't be just crazy ideas. There has to be some data, research and science behind it. And they do trust experience because it's done before other people have done it so why not draw on the experience that's already been done before. Somebody who is intuitive often looks into the future. Is imaginative, follows hunches, you know I have this gut feeling my gut tells me, I have a hunch. That's somebody who uses intuition. They love talking about theories especially their own. And they trust inspiration because if it's not fun if it's not exciting why do the same thing all over again if its already been done a hundred times before. Again do you need both on your team? You kinda do right. So that's really the mindset shift I would like to initiate with you today. Is to not look at this like oh my god that bozo head again you know with this crazy ideas. It's so outrageous it doesn't even make any sense but to say you know what let me hear his outrageous crazy ideas. And then let's think about what has worked before. Let's put these two in connection with one another and guess what we probably arrived at a better idea, product or a more fun intense meeting. But it's about stopping the eye rolling when somebody is different from you and just say, how can I incorporate that and make that be part of the process. Does this make sense? You nodding? Yes, you're having an A-Ha 'cause you just had this sort of moan, may we have a mic. Actually I was thinking about my son he's definitely the intuition he always got brilliant ideas and he's always in his head and very creative so it's exciting to me as his mom and I'm excited to see that grow in him but yeah absolutely can see that. And now you're looking at this almost like oh wow that's an advantage you know, how can I guide that and really have him utilize that so. Then what we wanna do is we want to give him also the other side of the equation as he gets older. [Woman In Audience] Which I'm pretty sure I am. Oh well good but now you know that there is this side and that side to it. Wonderful well thank you for sharing. Okay so in the workbook on page number eight. I have put together a page that says what does each type need and here what we're going to do is now and thank you for sharing your example. Is exactly about that now think about what the person that's different from you in these two categories would need to feel comfortable. And I'm gonna go to Kenna and see if we have anything from our live audience. So in terms of sharing what they think they are. Well we have Sam who is identified as an ENTP, we have Jennifer who is saying she's a INTP and then we have Eric whose saying ENFP an extrovert that often acts like an introvert lol. Big groups drain me but small gatherings are the right people and incredibly energizing, I'm wondering if there's sort of a spectrum or if you can be both. Of if you can have tendencies of both of these things or if people usually end up being one or the other. I love that because that's like the brilliance of the audience, yes there is, it's not really called a spectrum but there is between the extroverts and the introverts it's the ambivert. So that's somebody who can go either way. So my partner Gary is an ambivert sometimes he, the assessment shows him as an extrovert and sometimes the assessment show him as an introvert. so they're equally comfortable in both. Generally speaking introverts can be very comfortable in small groups that's the definition of one of the introverts they just don't like the large gatherings. Whereas an extrovert sort of like my thing is I would love to speak in a football stadium with 40,000 people so that would be my ideal size group. But thank you very much and feel free with the workbook if you need more time you can always take all the time that you need to fill this out or pause. And complete that at a later time.
