The Wheel of Misfortune: Not Receiving
Not receiving is a big one as well. They're all big. Not receiving is really this imbalance in the flow of money. And the reason we get this imbalance is because we hear it's better to give than to receive. Really says it's more blessed to give than to receive, but what we interpret that as is, it's better to be the giver than it is to be the receiver. I'm a better person if I'm a giver and I'm not quite as good of a person if I'm a receiver. Because it's better to be the giver than it is the receiver. But that is not what it says. There is no better and worse. We all have equal value, so pushing that balance in the flow of money out of alignment is blocking your money. But really it's a guilt and shame issue. I feel lesson than. I feel not as good receiving the money and so therefore, don't give it to me. And this is why, even if you feel like this isn't me. I'm good with money. I make a lot of money in my business. I hear this all the time. I have a business that makes two million do...
llars. Oh yeah? How much money are you keeping? It isn't about how guilty you feel your business should be about making money, it's about how much you're making. How much are you bringing in because it's your not receiving. Sure you may have determined that it's okay for the business to receive money. But it's how much are we receiving? Because when we're receiving then all of the sudden it taps into am I worthy of this? It's why also it's okay for a lot of us to get a check from a corporate job that's deposited into our bank account. We have no problem with that, but then all of the sudden I go out and try and make money and someone wants to hand me a check and I'm like, uh. Like don't tap on my worthiness issues here. I don't want to receive that from you, because that's a direct reflection of me. So how do we see this? But first. But first, I need more education, but first I need more practice, but first I need a better logo, but first I need a new website, but first I need. I cannot receive money until first I conquer the world and then people will give me money. Now, I'm not saying that you shouldn't do the prudent things and I'm all for working with excellence. And I had a photographer tell me one time. I am starting this new genre photography, so she already knew how to shoot, it's just not good enough, I just need to keep practicing. If I keep practicing and keep practicing then all of the sudden I think I'll be able to charge for it. But her friend came up, was like, oh no, her photos are amazing. She just doesn't want to charge for it. She doesn't want to put a price on it. Because if I put a price and charge for it, I have to receive money from you and that makes me open up my self worth. You don't see a problem receiving from a corporation, you see a problem receiving from a person, right? Because that person is there in front of us, and is reflecting back to us our self worth and that is difficult to swallow. And so, we block it. I can do it myself. I can do the marketing. I can do the sales. I can make the product. I can do the service. I can do everything, in fact, I can even pay myself. And you do, because you just transferred money around from account to account. You take money from this credit card and put it in this account and you move it over there. And then it looks like I'm paying myself, and I work for someone who did this. Had such hard time receiving money. Someone came in gave a sob story. It's free for you. Someone came in said I'm having a really hard month. It's half off for you. Had such a hard time receiving money, that he actually kept the business afloat by getting money from his wealthy parents. And then moving the money from account to account to make it look like he was making money. But he had to go to his parents and get money because the economy. It's just about economy. It's just a down month. It's just that clients aren't willing to pay this price for my service. But really I have my hands closed. Really it's me not feeling valuable enough to open my hands and receive it. Pretending money isn't important. I hear this a lot. Well, I have the love of my family so I don't need a lot of money. Well, I really like you know to go biking on the weekends so I don't need a better job. It's just going to make me work a lot so I don't really need more money. But when we're stuck in this what's really interesting to me is what we're really saying is, I don't love money. I am not like those rich people who love money. I'm better. I'm better than that because I don't love money. But something that's always struck me as odd, is who loves money more, the rich or the poor? What we really want to believe is that it's the rich that love money. But when I had no money, I was thinking about money all the time. I needed more money for this and oh my gosh don't let that cost me money because I'm not going to have enough money and I just need to figure out how I can get a little bit more money, and If I could do this then I could save some money. I'm thinking about money all the time. That's sounds a lot to me like love. I'm thinking about it all the time, versus the rich. They use money for what it is, a tool. It's a currency of exchange. If that costs them money it's just money. I don't need to lay awake at night and obsess about how I'm going to pay the bills. It's just money. There is no connection to it as this thing that I love. Because if something costs me money I'll just go make more money. It's just a currency. And, my husband and I photograph luxury real estate so in Beverly Hills the top of the top houses we go in and see what the wealthy really live like. How they really are. And the nicest most generous people are the most wealthy. When I walk into the 30 million dollar mansion welcome would you like a drink? Can I get you a glass of wine? I don't see that when I walk into the other houses. If I walk into a $500,000 house and I'm not saying all people are like this, but I'm just saying in general, it's tight. Don't touch that. Be careful of that. So the idea, in our head about how rich people are which may have come from programming, it keeps us because we think we're better, because we don't love money. But ask yourself, are you thinking about money all the time? Because that sounds a lot more like love to me, than using the money as the tool and currency that is it.

OMG!!! You two are amazing!!! I am so grateful for all of your insight, and preparation that you have shared with us, wow!!! Lucky me, to have come across such an informative talk. You brought a human element to what it's like to be an artist. Sharing your ups and downs but always forging forward to be the best that you can be, because that's what your heart longs for, and what you were put on this plant to accomplish and share with the world. I've been a professional photographer for 30 years, and feel so fortunate for the life I've been given. No matter how long you've been doing photography, or been successful, these two wonderful women help to analyze the big picture, which is so insightful. Through their observations, hard work, determination and belief they have forged forward and are sharing their knowledge with us. I'm a spender and this came at the perfect time, as I'm taking time to observe my patterns. Thank you so much for this stellar talk!

This was one of the best entrepreneur courses I've ever taken, not just on Creative Live, but pretty much anywhere. This course doesn't deal with the nitty gritty technical details of entrepreneurship. It doesn't teach you how to build a business plan, create a marketing plan, or how to actual run your business for success. There are literally thousands of courses and coaches that teach this. What this course EXCELS at is teaching you the psychology of what it takes to get past your mental and emotional blockages around wealth, entrepreneurship, and life in general. I literally just finished the course and am watching it for a second time because it's so good and is exactly what I need right now to get over my own emotional and psychological roadblocks to wealth. The negative reviews are most likely from people who didn't understand this was going to be about the inner game needed to succeed in business. If you're lacking the emotional or psychological empowerment to succeed, if you keep procrastinating on those most important business endeavors, or if you have no idea what's going on inside but you're not as wealthy as you want to be, this is the course for you!

This course came at exactly the time that I needed it! : ) I have been learning from a finance coach at my church that money isn't bad--it's the LOVE of money that's bad and the root of all evil. I've been learning over the last few months that money is a tool and can be used for good and this course just re-confirmed all of that. It's made me feel more confident and comfortable about the steps I've been recently taking to increase my pricing and makes me feel more comfortable with earning money, period. It is great for breaking down the false misconceptions you might have about money and is recommended for anyone struggling to price themselves, who doubt their worth or who just need (like I did) that extra step of confirmation that you're moving in the right direction. I loved this course so much I purchased it. Best $59 ever spent! (Seriously?! $59? I feel like I'm stealing at that price! I felt like, "How can I NOT purchase this investment towards my financial future?") Money well spent. The workbook is an added bonus too! :)
