Class Introduction

This is Connect With Your Customers On Social Media with Erin Dollar. My name is Robert Mahar, and I'm going to be your host today. If you are an entrepreneur who is looking to grow their small business, and to build a memorable brand, this is the class for you. And Erin is here to help. Erin is an artist and a textile designer based in Los Angeles, and she creates beautiful, hand printed textiles for her successful small business, Cotton & Flax. Please join me in welcoming for the first time to the CreativeLive state, Erin Dollar. (audience applauds) Hi, Erin! Thanks so much. Thanks for being here. Of course! I know we've got a lot to cover today, so I'm gonna hand over the stage and let you get started. Thank you. Okay. Thanks for being here, you guys, and thanks for that introduction, Robert. I'm Erin Dollar and I'm really excited to teach you guys how to connect with your customers on social media. And I'm a creative business owner, so I know how hard it is for all of...

us creatives to be managing so many different things with our business. It can be a real challenge, because we're keeping track of so many moving parts of our creative businesses. It can feel a little bit overwhelming when we're thinking about how to get started with making a plan for social media for our businesses. I run Cotton & Flax. It's a small textile home-goods business, and I'm running every part of the business, so social media's one aspect of that, but we all know, all creatives know, that our main focus is that we wanna focus on making the things that we love, creating those beautiful works that are really signature to our brand. But we also have to think about marketing. We have to think about how we're gonna put that stuff out into the world, and that can be really challenging, and feel really overwhelming. It's hard to know exactly where to start. But making a plan for social media is really important, and so it can feel overwhelming, I wanna teach you guys some strategies and some tips and tricks today that are gonna help you level up in your business, and reach that wider audience that's gonna be really excited about what you're doing. So we know there's a lot of reasons to use social media. It's not a secret that social media is a big component today of how we're gonna reach people on an individual level, and get them excited about what we're doing. We know that using social media effectively can create more sales for our business. We're gonna be able to grow that fan base, and reach more people who are really excited about what we're doing, and we're gonna be able to attract these dream clients, these people who are really excited about what we're doing, and wanna give us opportunities to make that creative work that we wanna be known for. And this is something that I've really used in growing my business. I've been able to create an enormous reach on Pinterest and Instagram, these visual-centered social media platforms, that have helped to bring me more clients, bring me more sales, and have allowed me to quit my day job and really just focus on my creative work full-time. So if you guys are creatives who are looking to make a bigger impact with your work, looking to reach that wider audience, this is a great class for you guys, and it's gonna help you get started. So I'm gonna teach you how to elevate your brand with strategies and tools that are gonna make the process a little less overwhelming, a little bit more easy to get started, and the biggest concept that I'm gonna talk about today is this idea of a visual vocabulary, and this is gonna help you create a really cohesive look for your brand, all of the visuals that you're gonna share on social media, so they really look consistent, and you start to get that signature style that people recognize as being you. The next concept I'm gonna talk about is how to streamline content creation, and content creation is making all of the visuals that we're gonna be sharing on social, sharing on our websites, sharing on the web in general. I'm gonna teach you some strategies and some tips for how to create a really streamlined approach to making those visuals, so you'll never be stuck with nothing to post on Instagram. Scrolling through, wondering, okay, what in my archive can I post? This isn't gonna be your situation anymore. You guys are gonna have a wealth of things that you can draw upon to have plenty to share with your audience. The next thing that I'm gonna introduce you to is some tips for how to better engage with your fans, and have this kind of dialogue with your fans so they feel connected to you and excited about what you're doing, because we have the opportunity to really take our fans and make them brand ambassadors, people who are so excited about the work that you're making that they wanna share it with their friends, and their fans, and you'll have organic growth that can really, really bring you a lot of that creative work, more sales, more engagement, it's gonna lead to that. And we're also gonna get into some of the nuts and bolts of optimization, some tools, some strategies, as well as some apps that are just gonna make things a little bit more optimized, and you're gonna get more engagement, and more of a big impact with each of these individual posts. So those are some of the things that we're gonna cover today, all in service of helping you reach that bigger audience, and really make a bigger impact with your creative work. Overall, I wanna just get you started down this path of feeling comfortable sharing your work with a larger audience, because you're gonna be able to inspire your fans with your creative work. And that's really the end goal here, is to be able to make a bigger impact with our work, reach more people, and hopefully create a situation where we're able to focus on our creative work in a big way, and this is just gonna help push that stuff forward.

I really enjoyed Erin class. I'm pretty new to social media so it was a little hard to keep up with all her great ideas. Don't get me wrong I don't think she moved too fast it's just my brain works a little slower. I took lots of notes and can't wait to implement them in my business. This is only the second time I've watched Creative Live . The first one was close to my heart and I loved it loved that one also. Thank you for offering free courses, it's a great way to get us interested in the other ones. I look forward to watching again. Thanks, Candace Romano
