Audit Your Alignment

So I want you to climb back into your mental time machine, back into back to january just before the shelters in place started to take effect and tune yourself back into the memory of how your business felt to you at that time and how it feels to you now. How does it feel to you now when you compare how you wanted to feel when you felt the business and how you feel now or how you felt even just before the pandemic that compare and contrast is going to be the basis for our final exercise. For getting your head into the game. And that exercise is this, it's to audit your alignment and there are really two different ways you can do this. The first thing you can do is just to ask yourself this single question. What's not in alignment? What is not an alignment with how I want want to and or wanted to feel when I started the business. Okay. And many times I'll just ask that question and people will instantly know the answer. Like, the team is not the right team, like our systems are just, yo...

u know, outdated and they're not we're working too hard um manually at things that should be automated. Um Our marketing is not an alignment I'm doing, I'm selling products or selling services that I really don't love, I really don't like to do there in my zone of excellence, but not my zone of genius. I don't like, you know, the clients that I spend time with, whatever, you may just already know the answer to what not in alignment. Don't be worried about being negative truly. What you're trying to do here is actually giving, you are trying to give yourself this beautiful gift of clarity and insight that can only come through crisis. So, you know, list them out what are the things that are not in alignment now? The second way you can do this alignment exercise is to actually kind of be systematic about it. So there are a sort of list of things that I will give you, that you can think through categories subject matters. Um you can think through our my are these things in alignment with what, how I wanted to feel, what I wanted the business to become. So I'll just run through them with you pretty quickly when you think about how you wanted your business to feel and how it feels now or how it felt before the pandemic. Well, I want you to think about these various subjects and whether they are in alignment, right? So are your values in alignment? You are the things that are important to you. Are they reflected in the business that you now have? Um are your beliefs in alignment? Right? Do you, did you have this beautiful vision for what you wanted your business to be? But really struggle with believing that that was really available to you? Or struggle with believing? Do you struggle with believing that people have enough money to pay the price? Is that you need to actually charge to be profitable? Um Are your decisions in alignment as you set goals? Uh for example, um as you set strategy, as you know, the decisions you've made in hiring the decisions you've made in vendors, the decisions you make all day every day as you do your business? Are those decisions actually in alignment with how you want to feel and how you want your business to be, how you want your business to operate? Are your actions and habits in alignment? Right. Are the it's the way that you spend your time on a normal day in your business, in alignment with the business that you want to have and the and the way you want to feel in it. Um think about your identity. How do you see yourself? Do you see yourself as a, you know, A person who does this function? Um as as just as a hairdresser or do you see yourself as an entrepreneur? Do you see yourself, how do you identify and does your identity expand to the income that you are desiring? Right? If you there are often often often I see challenges with identity and income where people are like actually I see myself as an entrepreneur, I see myself as having this great influence on my community and all my clients, but I really struggle with seeing myself actually making more than $100,000 a year, making more than $50,000 a year. Whatever the number is, that's an upper limit in their own mind. So your identity examine that is your identity and the way you see yourself in alignment with the business that you desire to have um in the business that you desire to have at the beginning of this. Um Are your systems in alignment and I almost don't need and know that systems include your employees. Systems include all people. Are relationships, are your systems and alignment? Are your marketing systems and alignment. Are your team systems and alignment. Are your actual technical systems and alignment? And is your environment and alignment and by environment? I do mean both your actual space for your business but also your own workspace in life space. Do you have the tools that you need to actually operate in business as the entrepreneur that you want to be? Um There are a few more specific alignment questions that will offer you to reflect on your business. Um Was your pricing in alignment before the pandemic? It's really uh surprising sometimes how often I meet entrepreneurs who are paying to operate their business versus their businesses, paying them and all of that kind of broke down in the crisis, really, people who were doing that couldn't afford to keep doing it. Um So it was your pricing in alignment with your customers and alignment. Um Are you spending a lot of time working with people that are not the kind of people you want to work with um where services and offerings in alignment with how you want to feel and how you want your business to feel. And then again, really take a hard look at your people systems, the people, the vendors that you have or don't have the people who could be doing the things that are in your zone of incompetence. But you find yourself doing a lot. So auditing your alignment is the last step of our um process here of getting your head back in the game so that you can do this sort of hard reset, stop reacting and take control as you come into a more inspired plan, strategic plan and vision for the next season of your business.
