PAL Region Downloadable Guide/Cheatsheet

1 Okay, so now let's have a look 2 at this videography settings guide. 3 So I created this so you can quickly look at 4 what type of video you want to make 5 and just see the basic settings for it here. 6 And you can download this PDF as a resource 7 that's attached to this lecture. 8 So I'm going to be covering 9 the frames per second on the camera, 10 the frames per second for the editing project and export 11 and also the shutter speed. 12 I won't be covering other settings 13 like aperture and white balance, 14 as these can vary depending on the situation 15 and what you need. 16 Okay, so now let's have a look at PAL region. 17 So this includes most of Western Europe, China, 18 some parts of Africa, India, Australia, New Zealand, 19 and some more countries too. 20 So let's first look at normal speed video 21 with dialogue or speaking. 22 So we'll need to set 25 frames per second on your camera. 23 Then you also want 25 frames per second 24 on your editing project and also exports...

. 25 And as we're filming in 25 frames per second, 26 we want the shutter speed to be double this number. 27 So we need to use 1/50th of a second for the shutter speed. 28 Now let's have a look at the settings 29 that you might want to use 30 if you want to create slow motion video. 31 So for 50% slow motion, 32 you will need to double the frames per second number. 33 So we'll need to use 50 frames per second on the camera. 34 In our editing project, we'll be using 25 frames per second, 35 and then we will slow the footage down 50% 36 in our video editing software. 37 And to achieve natural looking motion blur, 38 we need to have the shutter speed 39 double the frames per second number. 40 So for this, the shutter speed needs 41 to be at 1/100th of a second. 42 Okay, so now let's have a look at 43 25% slow motion or quarter speed. 44 So as this is quarter speed, 45 we need to times the frames per second by four, 46 so 25 x 4, so we're going to choose 100 frames per second. 47 However, we're still going to keep 48 a 25 frames per second editing project and export. 49 And in our video editing software, 50 we're going to change the footage to 25%. 51 And then to achieve natural-looking motion blur, 52 we're going to have the shutter speed 53 double the frames per second number. 54 So we're going to have 1/200th of a second 55 for the shutter speed. 56 So there's some essential settings 57 for recording videos in the PAL region. 58 Thanks for watching, and I'll see you in the next one.
