Ria world skills that matter ok I'm just a few things a few tips that really make it work that help you get noticed ok one you gotta have social people skills you've got to be able to network with people okay and that might be hard for some of us but you've got to do it in some way maybe you're not the most vocal person one on one but you gotta learn how to do it online maybe okay I don't know what you got however you got to do what you gotta do it ok you've got to be a value adder you know how I can tell which people are value adders and which people are valued takers the value of the takers all they do is talk about themselves constantly you ever run into those people right oh shoot I shouldn't ask that question you're trying to get out of it right because thiss person's been gone on and on and on and on and on about themselves for last ten minutes and they haven't asked one question about you so when you talk to somebody are you asking any questions are you finding out about somethi...

ng you know what my goal is when I talked to people my goal is I'm going to ask them questions and my goal is how can I help this person in their business or whatever that is my number one thing on my mind whoever I mean whether it's the ceo of some company or it's just you know some little kid on the street how can I help that person in some way? I always constantly seek to try toe add value to people that's why I love being accessible that's why I love going out to dinner with you guys every night when they go you guys never paid for me but that's ok, I should be paying I should be buying for you guys okay? All right, but the adding value adding value learn how to do that ask questions, evaluate give ideas that might take you places right guess what when you're talking to a high level person very high and you're communicating with them and then you give them the suggestion that's a solid idea that person remembers you that's somebody who I want on my team because these high level people there are on ly looking people for people that can add to their company or add to whatever they're doing and certain look, they're looking for the value adders you notice that the very high end people that achieve a lot a lot of times they're learning all the time, right? Because that's how they got to be where they're at is by learning okay, so positive energy you gotta have moe joe, man, you got to step in the room and people gotta like you right, so you know you're you're at the you're at the bar or whatever with their friends right having to drink and this jimmy comes in oh my gosh there's jimmy doc don't let him see us because you don't want jimmy to be hanging out with you guys like you don't got mojo right then you see jill ohio comes here's jill hey, come here we got a table right here for you come out we're right here. We're right here, jill that's when you want to be you want to be that person that and come here sit here at this table this is the one right here. You don't want to be the one where they're hiding from you. Why? Because you're not a value at her if you become a value added everybody's gonna want you at their table k style style goes a long way did you know that they've done studies? They've done studies and they send to people out getting donations they send in a very attractive person and they and they send out a very average person who do you think gets more donations every single time without a doubt attractive person every single time? Yeah that's un politically correct but it's it's the way the real world works style the way you dress the way you handle yourself the way you present yourself uh your parents right how kept you are that matters they don't teach you that in school, but in the real world it gets you places a certain style that you have okay be a good leader it takes courage it takes courage to be a good leader because you're going to go against the status flow the leader always puts himself reputation on the line a simple analogy is the person who picks the restaurant to go to for the group right? Oh do I want to be the leader and suggest this because what happens if it's crappy a I'm just not going to say anything because of it if it's bad, then they might not like me or you can't be that way you're going to be the guy said, hey look at you know what I think this little closer or whatever we're going hear ok make yourself vulnerable but you want to lead because why in the end you just want the best for the group it's not that you want all the attention but you want the best for the group and that's why you're going to step up and you're going to care and you're going to lead the best leaders care the most and so that's what you gotta learn how to do okay so finding your passion bold and courageous the perfect career is knowing yourself perfectly really you have to know what you're all about ok? Greatest success lies within living your passion okay, why don't we do what we want to do that's like driving with a flat tire? Why why is it that we don't do what we want to do? Well expectations and obligations we feel obligated, right? We feel that oh shoot we have to provide for a family then if we don't do this, then we can't do that also just keep doing this job because I have this obligation to my family or whoever and that's very, very strong especially if you're providing for you doing something for somebody who loved you how can you go against the how can you go against somebody who loves you? Right? And so that's, why it's so hard to go to your parents and tell them I'm quitting college and I'm going to be an oreste uh that's hard? Why? Because those parents loved you and so it's very difficult to go against that right when you feel obligated so baggage oh man, I had this to, um I'm not gonna get into this and start crying like a baby because there's not enough time, but everybody has baggage has stuff right? And we never think we're good enough that's why I brought up that ferrari example in the day one right? The ferrari is the most expensive, not even the best value, not even the fastest but everybody wanted it right? And so this sometimes we got this baggage and we just think we're not good enough we don't deserve it or whatever it's a lie we believed alive that society or maybe just our upbringing has put on us we have to get over that accomplishment sometimes we ok this happened to me I did very well in high school I was like the number one science uh whatever student in high school and I'm the one they call that right so what did I feel like? I felt like I had to be a scientist or something but I was an artist I really was an artist but I won all these awards is being a sigh a science guy that conflicted me my whole career. Okay, that also influenced you know, maybe people like your parents who think well yeah I know your son bill this way so I have this this way this way this way this way but really I was this over here took me friggin thirty five, thirty seven years to figure out that I should be a photographer right took me a long time. Okay, not good enough. Who that's a big one right there. Wow, I run into people all the time a man used to do that you should get a book out put that together, girl enter oh yeah maybe when I get a little bit better dude if you know you should have seen me at my very first workshop eight years ago if I look back at it now I was terrible but if I didn't start it eight years ago I wouldn't be right here right now yeah it's ok you're not good enough we know that but you're trying you have a sincere heart you sincerely want to help other people you want to share your information or whatever we can respect that in fact we can admire you for that and then weaken despite all of your kind of inadequacies we can look over that because you sincerely care and you want to move forward with that and we know that you're not the best but that's okay, just try it go forward have a good heart about it you're fine as long as your heart is good don't worry about it go okay risk to grab something more significant we have to let go with something familiar if we want something better, we're going to have to let go of something that we're really familiar with and that's why risk is so hard we got a chance something and let it go and that's what makes life hard so the more we risk than where we grow if you don't risk anything, you're not going to grow that's why experimentation is so huge you've got to be able to experiment and then you can grow because you're risking something you're risking the way you normally do something okay? Growth creates opportunities and job security that's what your job security is right now in this world where you've got to get a job you know, every other two years or five years and things you got a new job, your jobs that charity are opportunities and how do you get opportunities by being good at something by leading etcetera, etcetera? Okay, it's never too late, it's never too late to start this. I started my photography career at thirty seven I'm fifty one right now I still don't go quite got it together and it's still learning process but it takes a while I needed all those past experiences to to get where I'm okay toki doki plateau I talked about this a little bit before, but in the beginning, when you have nothing, you will risk it all right? Think about those days single. Oh, she just got this got one hundred bucks in her pocket. Yeah, we'll do this. Yeah, do that. Try this. Don't cost anything you want try out. Yeah, sure let's do it got nothing to lose than the more stuff you get cars you have the houses, the whatever pension plan I don't know we start gathering more stuff, the less risk it's harder and harder and harder what we gotta learn, how to do is not value all this stuff that we collect so we can go after the life that we really, really want, and in the end, we're going to be happier and so we can't get attached to too much of that stuff, it's just stuff, right? And we didn't need to learn how to continually to put ourselves out there in borough, and with that risk, we're going to get grilled, and with that growth, we're going to get opportunities than that stuff won't matter anymore because the opportunities to do what we love doing that's really what life is about not the stuff that's where you want to be, okay, so can't be a fate to reinvent yourself every once in a while. And that's actually what hap the one thing you can do is prepare for change. So here's, what career changers happens right economy sometimes is that and sometimes the technology, all those films, shooters versus digital that changed the whole market competition sometimes will do it ourselves. We change ourselves or with the same person we were two years ago. No, right? Eso we've got having kids that changed my life for served wow, one change was it cut out a lot of time. That's for sure so I feel like this when you're single you got this much time, you could do everything when you get married now you got this much time when you have kids now you got that much time so you got to do what you got everything like a lot of people have this much time to do it, but no, you got that much time if you kind of want to look at in general, you know, a lot of the top photographers and so forth, a lot of them don't have families, right? Because it's really difficult to do ok and so it's because you've got way less time, way less thought ok, diversified, commit to excellence, be proactive, not reactive about it be prepared for that change that change is gonna happen don't count on that next job or whatever because something might change, so be prepared to do that. Okay, set aside income to prepare for career changes live below your means that's why when you come over to my house, I am not gonna impress you with the place that I live in, but I'm living below my names because I love what I'm doing and if someday I want to change or do whatever, I keep my expenses down, so it gives me the freedom and I rather have that right and so I remember in my career, I had to decide between teaching and being a world class wedding photographer because I couldn't be both I had to go up to my wife one time, and I said, honey, I really want to go in to teaching, but it might mean cutting half of our income next year, and so you have to be prepared to do that because you're gonna want to do a change, but you're not gonna have the financial resources to do it, so start thinking about that now start burning to live below your means, you can do that. Ok? Martin, career cycle, let me tell you what happens. Usually we do traditional education, right? Going to college, we get a degree, we prepare for that, then we take a job way we have some options on a job also, we've got starbucks, or should I work for my dad? We should take this other job here, whatever there's some risk involved, whatever job you take, then you what you try to be good at it, whatever job you get, you go, man, I'm going to be best at what I'm going to do, and then you're doing good guess what you get opportunities high, you're doing a great job, we're going to make you manager, how would you like that then you climb that circle oh man, this is great manager now I can go and buy that new car then you do that you get good at it and you feel fulfillment and then you keep getting better at it and then you go to the industry and you go hey, we should do this it's better and then you suggest it and then they say, wow, that was a great idea we're going to make you ceo and you keep going up and we think that that's what happens but in the midst of all this most likely it doesn't why? Because there's discontent or that job no longer exists but or unfortunate circumstance happens and so maybe even we get right here we're pursuing the excellent thing I don't even like what I'm doing right here and then you go back to the middle and you have to grow again and then you have to reinvent again and then you start all over again and you try to get into this circle here but sometimes you have to reinvent yourself a few times before you confined that circle. So if there's anything in life that you can count on it's this reinvent reinventing and keeping growing, you've got to keep that doing that and then eventually you're going to find this and then maybe when you do this maybe even after five years that might not be fulfilling to you then you got to really remember that hey, you got to do that again it's constant for all changing the world is changing so we had to learn that that's the process but what keeps us above all this change is our willingness to grow our willingness to take risk okay? So ranting up real quick here when you stop taking risks we have placed all our eggs in our current life so if you stop risking whatever your life is that's what it is but if you want to change your life you're gonna have to take some risks ask not what your industry can do for you but what you can do for your industry leading okay fulfilling career in today's job market will demand you to be bold and courageous you have to be willing to put yourself out there and show who you are with your world class skills and lead the industry take him somewhere to a new place and with that's going to bring tons and tons of opportunity for you and you're gonna have much success with it. So anyways that's all I really had uh to share with you and I I don't know maybe I went a few minutes overtime or whatever but thanks for hanging in there with me and I just really want to wish you all the best with your career and I hope these few little tricks.
