My Top Ten Goals for Next Year
What are my top ten goals for next year? Oh you're kidding I did all that work, dori I did all that work and now you're asking me to select only nine and that is true so with this question number nine you have the opportunity to bring the power of your focus to this year ten ghouls and why ten well there's a wonderful business guru that many of us have followed for years some of you may have heard his name read his books tom peters and tom says that if you have more than ten principal priorities, excuse me more than ten priorities you have no priorities and more than ten goals is one of the principles ofthe best year yet to keep it to ten so that your focus is not diluted you can have ten what happened story if I achieve one of them and if I'm coaching you and you achieve one and it's completely completed by may by june by july sure we'll slide another one in but you still only have ten, ten ten to get the amount of focus that it takes the produce the results and head you down that des...
tination pass to best year yet so we're going to ask you right now to look at your list and too quickly select the ten that are the most important to you and you need to make sure that these ten I have something to do with their major role focus too because if we leave that out then uh oh we're off kilter here what about the major role focus when you're selecting these goals and so all asked the internet audience please go do that right now and the in studio audience you do that now to tune me out on the noise a little bit you can what if one of your goals is maura maintenance than actually and achieving like I always have a goal to be healthy in my life and night I do that it does that stay I mean it's still a priority to me but it's not a new yes and if it's if it's already existing and established in your life I would say well why are we putting it on our destination path we've already arrived were already there think good good I I hope that's helpful to so if you're already there then you may already be there you're on award winning photographer but you're choosing to be on award winning photographer in a new level or in a new space somewhere then add that on an ad what that new spaces that new level so could be present tense and it's a stretch to good so do that now internet audience please do that now too and I'm going to chatter a little bit about this question number nine in our best year yet plan what are my top ten goals for next year when you're selecting your goals, we want to make sure that they're not going to conflict with any of your values remember those values that are hold dear to you and those ones you're going to pump up and there's a couple more but let's get to first what are some of the ones that made your top ten so I know the one she just spoke of in studio audience are it? How many goals did you have to go through? Sort through to cross out and get to ten erica how many did you right? I don't have about fifteen about fifteen okay, so can you go through quickly and cross off the five that aren't going to make the plan this year for the most part um, I'm I have about eleven, but I'm looking at okay, I was thinking of maybe one of the goals could be part of another goal it might be so hang on to that hold onto that thought and as we go through the remainder of question nine I think we're going to get it down to to the ten for you I think you'll have that answer, becky, how many do you have you have around ten you have around ten good and that's good kelly yeah, a navy do you have a lot like over thirty over thirty oh that's wonderful no that's wonderful that's that's usually what I expect especially out of first best year yet the first year client so out of thirty and so I want you to watch as we go through the questions and in the nine question nine and see if it helps you pare that down internet land I'd like to hear from you as to what we're just throw out numbers to j k o john marie and throw out the numbers let's hear how many goals did you have right now on your from yesterday's homework thirty forty twenty twelve and throw that out I'm going to check in in a moment I'm always curious as to how many goals people come up with how many did you have erica for tell me how many goals do you have for just one roll do you have more than one um for my cultural which is the one I'm zeroing in on I've three you have three most I have to and I think two rolls I just have one okay all right all right so did you notice too when you were doing that that the one that your major role focus that you really had a bunch of things that you wanted to achieve good, good good thought let's hear from the internet how many jesse l saying they've got twenty two and s is saying nineteen but stunning elements is assassin clarification clarification question do sub goals count and I wonder what a sub gold that's an interesting question. What is it, mary? Explain us for a sub gold, and maybe we'll be able to answer that one blue jay singh I have I had a hard time coming up with ten butterfly. Vanessa had twenty. So it's it's kind of over the map. How many we have great one from matt np a he says my top goal for next year is to buy a sailboat big enough for me and my better half and I to cruise around the caribbean in and also learn how to save lives. And he had twenty eight goals and he had twenty eight and enrico photo is saying they want to pay for a trip to the philippines, pay off all their debt, competing physical competition and be booked solid for three months straight consistently on, then do an inversion in yoga. I don't know you're good, you know, an inversion inversion is where you're upside down, right? Well, I fancy the sound of that as well. On. Of course, those were all separate goals at the good goals, good goals, but not strung together. There they are separate, unique in themselves that we heard, including the inversion I don't quite have that in my mind yet. Oh, wow okay, you have to work up to it it's certainly in something you work up towards and actually stunning out most of the sub girls the thing I like to break down michael's into bite sized pieces I think that's what? Uh okay, thank you. I get that and I get that so much that that's exactly what we're going to do this afternoon so somebody's plugging that that in there that's one of the reasons why this process works because we write the goal we write the destination and we chunk it down brilliant somebody's in there they're going to be good. Okay, so do any of those goals conflict with your values and are you willing to do whatever it takes to achieve that goal that's a very interesting question, it's one that causes my stomach sometimes the turn. So the year that I put a goal out there that I was, um going to run a marathon you could feel the gulf even today that was five years ago and and the gulf was well, him I really willing to do whatever it takes there's so many things I had done and this time I said, look, if you're going to put it down the world's going to see it because I share my plan with my my friends, my family, my clients, as I mentioned, I walk the talk so if I'm going to put that out there, I know I'm going to be measured on it judged probably it's a natural human being to judge well, how are you doing that? That was a goal and when I finally decided I was going to join a group to do this marathon that's what it took, I chunked it down, but I didn't had to do some fundraising for it too, and I was embarrassed to go out and ask people because I wasn't sure I was really going to do this still. So even though I answered this question in the middle of my plan, I was still wishy washy about this till I bucked up and said it's on my plan I said I wanted to do it just get past it and do it little bit of tv's thing there just go fill the fear and do it anyway and and running it well, the nice thing about that goal it was a chief you saw my picture and I'm also proud to say that I wrote raised the most money for that charitable organization that they had ever seen ray's in seventy two hours because I had to have that money in seventy two hours in order to fly to where I was going to do the marathon and I waited until then to tell the world oh, by the way, I'm running a marathon I need your contributions to help this charity so I think back to that because I think you know, I did it for that one I could do it for another one, but you have to dig in right now dig in to find out really is your question answered that yes, you're willing to do what it takes to make that goal happen? There comes the realism there comes through relevance and the realistic and is it attainable? I mean, I know they're attainable most of our goals but that realism comes in so ask yourself this question and answer it honestly are my goals realistic, achievable and what we've been talking about here this morning? Are they exciting? Are they enticing doesn't make you feel super to fill and visualize the end of this year that they have come true now is when you're going to use a very fine tooth comb and that fine tooth comb is has anything been left out looking at those ten goals you've selected is anything left out because remember this is what is going to be your focus of attention this year? Is anything getting too much attention and especially at the expense of something else something else that's important to you? Well, the answer might be yes on that if you have decided your breakthrough role is to be break out and have a second act as a photographer uh follow pamela slims work escape cubicle nation and start and open your own business we know that's going to take a major amount of energy, go back to school and get another degree or certification learned something new how about this become a new wife, a new spouse, a new parent major major time commitments so at the expense of anything else that's qualify a ble by I'm making the decision that that's what I'm going to dio and the chunk of my life will pie is going to have the majority of it here and I am specifically choosing the rolls to slim down around the pie for the rest of them will the achievement of any goal lead me away from my personal values so those were those should sze don't be should it upon don't buy a ticket tau ought to land and does your major role focus have goals in your top ten so if you're ready, lock and load those goals on page twenty nine in your workbook internet audience creative live I'd like you to do the same thing you're going to put them one through ten on your piece of paper those are the goals use a highlighter if you need to cross off the other one's if that makes it scary to you because you don't want to cross off that goal then stick it somewhere stick it somewhere in a file for next year's best year yet plan but select your ten and it's your final answer as we like that in people will ask me when I'm coaching them they'll say, well, dori, I couldn't get it down to ten I needed eleven and, uh, evy, uh, we're staying here with ten this sylvie dorrie's rule actually it's the principal one of the principles of best year, yet you can have your four guidelines that's fine it's also one of the things that air uh it's beneficial to have somebody else. Look at your plan that's why we have four hundred and fifty best year he had coaches to help you tighten it up to help you really make sure that it's got the legs that it's solid and that it speaks to you and it doesn't conflict with things such as your values or other things in life that you have said are important to you. Another set of eyes are helpful when you're working with the coach, as I know my front row has been today is I don't have a bias nous or an opinion about your life. I just am here to know that you want your goals, your goals to produce that new result, and my only job is to help you get there, even if it's just the review of your plan that's, a great partnership and a collaboration to dio why would you not use a best friend for that? Best friends? Good intentions, however, they haven't opinion about your life, they may be looking at your plan and say, well, well, whoa, whoa, wait a minute. What about girls night out? What what about our football games? So careful there, careful with having your spouse, adit or coach your plan, they're involved your business partner, same thing now there's, a place in a space for them, but not when it comes to being your coach or editing your plan.

I bought this course a couple of month ago and I'm glad I did; it has given me such clarity and a great toolset which has already lead to the first great results. Thank you so much Dory Willer and the CreativeLive Team for making this course available.

This is a good class. It gives you the blocks to build your best year, but ultimately it is you that must commit to the work throughout the year. to make it happen. Michael Hyatt also has a similar course, that is good.
