Finding Purpose In Your Timelapse
(gentle music) Okay, so now we know how to shoot a time lapse. Let's move on to thinking about how to develop a time lapse project. So, I like to break this down into three steps. The first thing is what's your purpose for shooting time lapse? Is this a time lapse that's gonna go into a bigger project? Is it gonna serve the purpose of creating a transition such as a transition from day to night, or is this gonna be entirely its own time lapse project? So when I made Project Yosemite, I was thinking about how I could capture the transitions in seasons and show that in a only time lapse. So I developed that project with that purpose. Number two, you want to think about where you're gonna shoot your time lapse. Now, start to think about the elements present in the environment that you'll be shooting. If you think about that, it's gonna help direct you towards a specific shot that you're looking for. The third thing is what is the event that you're capturing? You should think about what ...
time of day you're capturing. Are you capturing the day or the night? What makes more sense? Also, what's a good time of year to be shooting your time lapse? Should you shoot it in the wintertime, or is the event that you're trying to capture, such as the Milky Way rising? Is that gonna be better in the summertime? The answer to those questions will help you be more efficient with your time when planning the time lapse project. Those are the three key questions you should ask yourself before starting a time lapse project. (gentle music)
