Using Sticker Lock
This is something that I think as a as a user of vinyl turntables on dure using timecode vinyl like this is it is a great teacher tohave andi will allow you to kind of, I guess, sort of mimic the way that you used to let's say juggle a record when you're using vinyl records or just a way of, like, really having a visual cue on the actual record. So anything you want to say before I start marking up these records just like you've got a you got it pretty much covered there. I think another way I like to use it is if I don't have a mini controller around or serotta remote for whatever reason, this is a great way I'm just using vinyl, devious and my computer without any media controller to press q points instead of having to use my keyboard, I can needle drop to a q point, so I'll let you explain that in a bit more detail, though happened. Yeah, for sure and actually this was a feature that, like started off is like an easter egg right inside of inside of scratch life that's, right? Yeah, ...
it was it wasn't a feature, it was just a kind of like an easter egg, a secret feature and a lot of people really, really enjoyed it it could be saying really timesaving for you, if you're in a real put on a performance kind of environment and you know, you don't have time to reach to your computer and you just wanna you drop your needle, have it right on that key point and know exactly where it's gonna land, especially if you've marked your records correctly, you're you're you can rely on it a lot easier than then. Yeah, then he didn't have a set of cute yeah, right, yeah, um cool. So I'm going to first go through how to sort of properly marked the absolute zero on the timecode record. So, um, you know, even though these are the same record, which, by the way, these air, the the nice little serato scratch dj academy limited edition control vinyls, which I probably have to get you a pair of these matt, do you have a pair of these? I don't need to be in my collection, I would absolutely send you a pair of these men were running low on the inventory to so I'll make sure I save you some, um the even though it's the exact same record and the label looks the same, you know, a record when they place the label on the record it's not absolutely exact where, so you can't just rely purely on the label because each record maybe a little bit different so what I want to do is we're going to use I know this is very, very high tech, but what we're going to do is we're going to find stickers of some sort and we're to use like an actual sticker to mark this up the guys that creative live I asked them for some stickers and they were like what do you what do you using stickers for on dso I've got a nice little hello my name is sticker that I ended up taking a pair of scissors to and and cutting up um and so I've got a little um these little strips here sometimes people use like these these dots like these square I mean these round circles and place them at the center of the records or like a line so today I'm going to use a line just because I think it's a little bit more visual, eh? So what I I'm going to do is I'm going to find the very, very start of the time code so the way I'm going to do that is I'm going to switch back to absolute mode all right um and I'm going to start the record at the very beginning um and so if I start the record at the beginning, you'll notice on my screen when I start the record that then this is the ah okay, so I'm going to just kind of make a note of this right here and so this is kind of like right where that is and you can check this with a couple of different songs just to make sure that that's in fact the beginning of where things start but I'm gonna mark this as just sort of a default and I think that that's about right then if I'm not gonna put all the way down we have to move it I'll move it now what I'm going to do is I'm gonna mark it off to the needle um there are different ways to mark your to mark your records some guys like to mark the records straight up and down at twelve o'clock so therefore when it's the one they would then have a marker right here at twelve o'clock um and some of this is just the way that you may be learned the guy that you were learning off of maybe like how they mark their records um we used to get into debates about this about what is the right way to mark your records there really isn't a right way to mark your records just so long as you know what they are um so I'm gonna mark that right there I'm gonna pull up another track to just see if that's exactly where the oneness um I mean pope, another song okay and yeah, that tends to be where my one is cool so I'm gonna lay that down and now that's my now that my one now let's do that on this record to some of switches backto remember I want to go to absolute to do this to find the very first one can again now on this one it's a little bit different on this one it is ah different in terms I'll show you when I compared the records um set that off to the core so and let me just double check that by going to another song cool um now let me show you the record so cool so you can see that the difference between the records there is a difference like in terms of where the mark was just a slight difference but this is the reason why I need to make sure that you mark your records with a separate sticker and not just rely on the centre label um go so what we need to do is I need to go into into my set up again and I need to make sure that I enable sticker lock so if there's a tap here cd vinyl now that will pop up when you actually have devious enabled so if you don't have the dvs expansion pack you're not going to see that tab so click on that and I am going to enable sticker lock all right, so if I checked that up now there's going to be some options, more options here on and then also sticker lock on instant double we can show you and talk to you a little bit more about like what that is actually doing and then matt mentioned this earlier this dropped two q point function, which is actually pretty cool um and I'm gonna have that set up because that's going to be a cool thing to show off his well, um all right, so uh let's see, I'm going to start by okay let's take this and if I put the needle on the record, I'm now back in relative mode, by the way, so I go back and I placed the needle at the very first minute mark anywhere actually in that first minute on the timecode um, it's going to pull up the first q point and you'll notice that it's point of the first to point at the actual mark that I want actually I was moving a little too fast in this mark isn't exactly accurate, so let me here I've got another piece of tape that I'm going to use um issues that this nice little gaff tape right there that's my right there for that now you'll notice that if I pick up the needle and I go back to the first minute again it's going to pull it up again and now it's gonna land my mark exactly right here on this again. So the majority against ajay is it is that's plain. I pick up the needle and let's say, my record is here. I placed the needle back at the minute mark anywhere in that minute, mark it's going to pick it up and then pull it right back to so that the one that that first q point hits when I'm at my mark on the sticker. Now, this is incredibly helpful for then, like being ableto go back to the beginning of something and know exactly where you're at, so I picked this up. Go back right back at the top. I could do the same on the other side. Now, the when I'm doing this, if I goto the second minute mark, what it will do is it allow me the second key point, but it allowed it also where that stickers that I can do the same with the third. If I pick up the needle and jumped to the third q point and like you can see where this is, that actually turned on my volume, this right here would be my third q point right there, right on, so one of I think one of the coolest ways to use this would be if you've got like let's, say a scratch sentence, which I'm gonna pull prescribed sentence on the other side here, so I've got a scratch sentence if I go to the beginning, this would give me this give me my first my first q point on it, but I need to make sure that I'm in relative mode to enable sticker lock, so if I go to the first one my first cool let's pick this up only five pulling it up finally, the time has come second one now let's start let's give it and then if I got a third one, that one fourth one and if you're watching my screen, I e o you see how it's pointed up, and so this could be a really cool way of they're not having to worry about hitting a particular q point and then also having a real solid visual here because often times if you're scratching or doing something or even juggling that, you should be more focused on this than be focused on the screen or like a lot of times like where this is actually landing on the record is then going to be obviously more accurate and ah, and better than having to worry about hitting the q point whether that beyond the keyboard or on the controller or something that matter, you still there? Yeah, um any any other use case that you use this for? Do you want to tell these guys like how you like to use sticker lock? I think you covered a lot of it. I mean, other than just using it in doubles routine getting, you know, if you were more of a traditional guy that wants to kind of spice up your life set and you want to throw a quick double or going back to back with some records, this is a really traditional way. If you if you used to doing that if you came from a vinyl background it's kind of marius everything, the software and the final experience together. Really, really well, yeah, definitely. Definitely. This is like a really solid way to, like, really enable like this and marry this old school, sort of like way it's, your more traditional way of of using the turntable, but using it was software and utilizing things that are like familiar from that, that other side of the world with the turntable. So like being abused your stickers and have them work with the with the software seamless is is huge and there will be no but just a few points and loops and things like that with that having a sacrifice and even you really opened up everything there
