Class Introduction
I'm very excited to be here today for this class of creating your ultimate business plan. So, whether you already have your business or your looking to start your new business, the idea of having to write a physical business plan can be really daunting. But, let me tell you while daunting, you really need one to set up your business for success. And a business plan is really an essential road map for business success. So what we mean by this is that the business plan is really what should have all the different components, on all the different steps and all the different components that you have to nail in order to have a robust plan of execution for your business, to deliver the results that you want. When we think about a business plan, and what we will be learning about today, is that you should be thinking about a timeframe between three to five years. So, in any business endeavor when you're trying to sell that idea, you need to build a compelling story that gets the audience exci...
ted and convince them to invest. And that's what all the components of the business plan that you build today for your business will allow you to do. And keep in mind that the more appealing the idea, the more solid the arguments, the less perceived risk your investor see from what you're proposing, the more likely you will be able to get that support that you need to make sure that your business continues to thrive. And if you're starting it, it will give you the jumpstart so that it can be successful. So that's what we are looking to accomplish today. But you might think about "Okay, I have all these great ideas in my head, "I know what my business all about, "why do I need to put it on paper?" And the reality is that, you have to put it on paper so that it actually happens. So, what I like to... I love this quote when it says "A goal without a plan is just a wish." And I really believe that unless you have the discipline to put your thoughts on paper, in a robust plan, it might not happen. It would just be a wish. And we are in the business word, looking to drive action and turn concepts and ideas into brands, and brands into businesses. So that's what we're going to be talking about today. And I want you to also consider that, even if you have a brilliant strategy, if you don't have an executional plan, it won't take you too far. So, another way to think about the business plan is that it becomes your operational plan that you can carry along the way, step by step, to make your goals for your business and become a reality. So if you're with us today and you're looking to start your own business or you already have one, you will greatly benefit from having this physical plan of creating your ultimate business plan as I would like to say it. Either for yourself, for the people that you work with, or also for the investors. Ultimately, business plans are used to gather support for partners or investors, so that you have additional resources to see your business grow. So, I'm here with you today because I've been successful as leading small and large businesses. And I've been building brands over a decade. But, probably what excites me the most is that I've been actually be able to witness myself the power of laying out the process to set up the direction and see brands grow over time. And that's my wish for you as well. That with a robust business plan, you will be on that path, of having a robust plan to see your business grow. So, a little bit on how to take this class. And when we think about the sections that you will see called out in gray. That will be the theory. So, we'll be basic concept of what you need to see in terms of the content that will be laid out as part as the document. So, we will be constructing a document as we go through the class. And then in blue, you will see questions which are really the cues of what you should be answering in order to be able to populate the section. So, you will have your own template to build your plan as we go through the class and after as well, you will get that material. So, keep in mind that as you're creating your own business the overall content of a business plan should read like a story. So, the story should include the components of what your business is looking to accomplish, how you want to accomplish it, and the key indicators of successes. Because you are in the business of selling your idea, story telling will be part of what we'll learn how to do today. Being reflected in the document that we will be building together. Okay. So, to get started, I would like to show you all the different components that we will go through in order to build your robust plan. So, there's nine different sections, and we're going to start in the executive summary. And I'm going to explain each of the sections for you. And we're going to be developing all the different components all the way to marketing strategy, even the numbers and the financial projections that you need to show to demonstrate what your business can do. And then finally we will talk about the measurement plan and the appendix. And so, we're going to have nine steps, and we're going to start those right away.
