Lesson Info

Mixolydian

Next is Mix Aidon. So this is the mode and it starts on the fifth note of the major scale. So we have Ionian, which is one do, which is two Phrygian Lydian now mix Lydian. This is quite popular in a lot of jazz music and blues music because we're actually flattening the seventh note. And when we flatten the seventh note, this is quite similar to the, the dominant scale or the dominant core where we have a flattened seventh. So it's very popular in jazz and blues. Just remember that. And here we go. So G Mixolydian will be the fifth note up of the scale. So if it was a mix Lian, we will know it has the notes of D major but starts on A and G mix Lian means it has the notes of C major but starts on G. So we have G ABC DEFG. And if we have a look at G major scale, we know that there's an F sharp to do tone tone, semi tone tone tone semitone, there's an F sharp and to turn this major scale into a mix Aiden, all we have to do is flatten this F sharp to an F, it gives us quite a jazzy blue so...

und and that's basically what a mixed Lydian scale is. So let's have a look in Ableton Live. Let's just uh move this up to a G. So of course, it can just be the fifth note of the scale and root around this. So in C major, it would be G mix Lian or we can just flatten our seventh note. So G major has an F sharp. So this is just a G major scale really simple or we can flatten this to an F. Now, listen to this movement at the end. Let's just hear if it sounds quite jazzy to you, give you a different kind of sound using this in your music. So if you want to create something quite jazzy or quite bluesy, maybe have a look at the mix Lydian mode.
