Welcome to Creative Live. My name is Kristi Webber and I'll be your host for Wedding Photography: Capturing the Story with Rocco Ancora and Ryan Schembri. Rocco was named one of the top ten wedding photographers in the world by American Photo Magazine and he's an ambassador for Nikon, Epson, and Canson. Ryan Schembri is one of Australia's best wedding photographers and in 2012, he was named AIPP's Australian wedding photographer of the year. He's also one of Canon Australia's newest Canon masters. Rocco and Ryan are here with us to teach their unique approach to wedding photography that always centers around creating an incredible client experience and truly capturing the unique story of every couple they photograph. This class has information for every level of wedding photographer, so whether you're just starting out or you're looking to refine your business, this class will help your wedding photography business thrive. We're so excited to have them here with us today, so everybody ...
please join me in welcoming Rocco and Ryan to the Wedding Photography stage here at Creative Live. So, thank you so much for having us and thank you to our live audience as well, thanks for being here guys. We know quite a few actually, so which is nice, nice to see familiar faces. It is. And I have to say what a pleasure it is to present this cause with one of my best, best friends, so it's very cool-- Is he here as well? Yeah he is, yeah somewhere. Oh okay. Yeah he's around in the back, yeah. (laughs) Thanks Ryan. But we should, I reckon we should just get straight into it, what do you think? Absolutely, absolutely. We have a lot to get through and... Nice shot Ryan. Thanks man. Got a lot to get through. Now I'm going to ask a very, very simple question. Who's passionate about photography? You can interact with us. You can interact with us, it's okay. (audience laughs) Awesome, because every time we ask that question when we do a workshop, everybody puts up their hands and in fact, that is the sole reason why we initially began our careers in photography. We started taking photos with a passion because we loved it. You know, for some of us it was a hobby and then we extended it to something far greater. The passion, however, kind of gets diluted the minute we start thinking business, would you agree? Because the minute we start thinking about running a business, being efficient, making a profit, that side of things outweighs the creative side. And we kind of start to fall out of love with photography. Well it doesn't have to be like that, okay? We can still maintain that passion and we can still have a great business and it's all about efficiency. Efficiency not only in post-production, which we'll talk about tomorrow which is extremely important because the amount of money that we have left over at the end of the day in our pocket is that really proportional to the, you know, the amount of time we spend behind our computer? But also efficient in the way we shoot. It's not about creating or bringing back, you know, thousands and thousands of images. It's not about the quantity of images, guys, it's about the quality of images. It's about being decisive in what we capture, in the way we expose, in the way we light, in the way we pose or actually we can't really use pose, I'm not going to use pose, I'm going to use direct people, because pose is such a dirty word. "I'm not a poser, no we don't like posing." It's not about posing, it's about really directing, okay? And it's about being connected with the subject that you're photographing. So we do it, yes we're passion, but we also do it for profit. Absolutely, I couldn't agree more. I always ask the question to people that I see, is that how many of us love, you know, spending time behind a computer? And it's not often a lot of us that do. I do. Well Roc's very good at it. But I don't love it, in fact, I waste too much time when I'm sitting behind a computer, I play too much. So my real passion is capturing things in camera and that's a lot about what today's about and getting that perfected and then letting him polish it, so. (Rocco laughs) And I prefer the word polish over-- Yes. Over retouch-up. Over resurrect. Yeah, or resurrect, yeah.

WOW!!! I have started a few CL courses but not finished as I got distracted by "life" and it took me a while to get back and finish them. But these guys!! They were simply superb. I finished this course really fast. Amazing artists, they explain things so well, Ryan is such a charmer and engaging teacher, Rocco is a fountain of knowledge. I am an enthusiastic photographer with aspirations to start my own business soon. I learn't so much from this class that will help improve my photography even if I don't become a professional wedding photographer. Great job guys, keep it up. I will need to come back to the lessons and I very much appreciate the key note pdf. All CL courses should include the slides like they did here. Thanks CL.

Ryan & Rocco, in my very humble opinion, are THE best wedding photography instructors in the entire industry! I've been watching their work for years now, which just so happens to win a most grand-scaled competitions, and they somehow continue to keep getting better! I first drilled Ryan at WPPI inquiring about what made his workshop different from all the others. His response, me paraphrasing, "If you're looking for tools to learn, come to my workshop. If you're looking for inspiration and smoke blowing, don't come." That's exactly what I needed to hear. Straight tools, no fluff. THE BEST photography workshop I've EVER taken, by far. You want the best photography education, learn from the best. This CreativeLive workshop is the PERFECT complimentary refresher and companion to what I learned! Thank you so much for having them! It's not the same as the workshop, which it shouldn't be, but they ARE reinforcing many things that have slipped my memory! I'm for sure buying this! :-)

I am a newborn photographer by trade, but I really want to venture out and photograph more weddings so I decided to purchase a wedding class on creative live. Of course when I typed in wedding, quite a few classes came up. But when I saw the image and title "capture the story" I was definitely intrigued. I've always been touched by the photographs that have emotion and that's what I'm passionate to photograph! Always a little nervous when you purchase a class because you don't want to feel like it was a waste of money, but this knocked it out of the park for me! Thank you to Ryan and Rocco for explaining so much, showing the pull backs, and moving your subject and explaining why! This has opened my eyes so much to how beautiful photographing a wedding can be and not so terrifying as I've been making it out to be. I'm really so thankful to hopefully being a great wedding photographer and making more income for my family, while having fun creating something beautiful
