3 Steps to Get Started on Facebook
So, Facebook is basic, #PumpkinSpiceLatte basic. (audience laughing) And, we went back and forth, like, dude, should we really include that hashtag Billy? I'm like, yes, yes we should. But usually when you think of Facebook you think of this guy, the five headed monster. "Oh my god, they're gonna take my money! "They're such a ripoff, I'm so glad they're in trouble "for X, Y, and Z," and all of these things, and you get mad. I'm gonna hit you guys with some truth, if Facebook doesn't work, it's not Facebook's fault, whose fault is it? People don't even wanna type in the chat yet, "Whatever you say Billy. "I know they secretly stole my money." They don't care about your 75 bucks you lost, I promise, they're doin' bigger things than that, 'kay? So it's not this, it's this. Facebook is nothing more, you hafta own this truth to be good at it, than a billboard, period. It's a billboard that you can literally show a message to anybody in the world, the end! So if you had to simplify it, if F...
acebook's job is to show your message, if they delivered your message in front of the person that you wanted to show it to, they are done, period. Everything that happens after that point is now up to you, which means you hafta take accountability for everything that happens after the click, and before it, 'kay. Continuing on, I know some of you out there, um, which camera am I on, here? Ah, found ya, I know some of you out there are newer and some of you out there are more experienced. So I'm gonna kinda start from the beginning and the basics here, and then we can kinda get to the more advanced stuff. So first things first, when I say you can create a message and put it in front of anyone in the world, here's what it looks like. Number one, it's a newsfeed ad. This is where you see most people advertising. Who here has advertised in a newsfeed before? Raise your hands, or you boosted a post in the newsfeed? Right, you clicked the "Boost Post" button. That's what it looks like, and the way you know it's there is because usually it says "Sponsored" underneath it and that's that. In addition to that, you can also advertise on the right column, which is just those ads on the right. When I started advertising on Facebook, they only had the right column. And the right column was literally, like, 10 times less as big, it was small, it was just puny. Like people almost ignored it. And so when I used to go to businesses about advertising on Facebook, they said, "You can advertise on Facebook?" And I'm like, "Yeah, "haven't you seen those ads on the right-hand side?" They're like, "No, "I don't know what you're talking about, Billy." And then when I'd show them, it was even less impressive, 'cause they go, "Really, you want me "to put my ads on the side there? "I didn't even know they existed." So for my marketers out there who are selling to clients, I want you to understand that you got it easy right now! Everybody knows they're supposed to be on Facebook, they just don't know how to do it. When I was comin', I had to sell them on the value of why Facebook in the first place, so the climate is good for all of us, 'kay. Continuing on, another powerful form of message placement is the Messenger. Have any of you tried Messenger ads, let me know at home, have you guys tried Messenger ads? So Messenger ads are pretty cool, they allow you to literally message people. It's, it's fascinating. (audience laughs quietly) That's, that's it, that's just it. It just starts a chat and there you go. Or you can run an advertisement for a local chiropractor, then say, "Hey, if you're interested, click this button," and it starts a message right away, so you catch the lead while they're hot. So there are a lot of advantages to it, and we can talk a little bit more about that soon. So, step two, putting your ad in front of anyone in the world, period. So, this is actually a good question, and Chris, I'd like to know, too, at home, how many of you have even logged in to Facebook's Ads Manager and actually ran? 'Kay, so the audience, some of you, some of you haven't. But I'm curious to know at home, what's the vibe like? You know, a lot of you just hit the button and boost posts, but how many of you actually been into what's called the Ads Manager or the Power Editor? If ya haven't, you're missing out on several of the features. A lot of people think that "Boost" is kind of it, but you're like, just scratching the surface. And so, this is a screenshot of what the Ads Manager looks like, and it's nothing crazy. But what's crazy is how powerful the targeting capabilities are. And so, you can do anything, from just typing in a location, like San Francisco within 10 miles, or talking about their age, or advertising specifically to a gender, or putting in their interests, such as CreativeLive. Simple, this takes you virtually 60 seconds to set up. It's nothing crazy, so I know there's a lotta creatives that are watching this too that get, actually, forget that. There's a lot of entrepreneurs out there who feel overwhelmed sometime, raise your hands. It's everyone, it's the number one thing that stops us from being successful. So a lot of you have this limiting belief in your head that you don't have the tech skills to operate on Facebook. The reason why I'm showing you this basic screenshot, there's nothing exciting about it, because Facebook is a basic pumpkin spice latte, there's nothing crazy, it's a screen where you type in stuff, the end, 'kay. Continuing on, I wanted to show you guys a couple capabilities in regards to targeting that a lotta people didn't even realize you can do, that's an easy way to win and get business right now, this second, in watching this class, and it's this. Number one, our favorite, targeting by birthdays! You can, how many people didn't know that, right? (scoffs) Lotta people! At home, I know y'all didn't know that, right! (audience laughing) Think about how powerful this is. So, for those of you who are like, let's say you're, you have a restaurant, or something similar to that. Just imagine, if you can advertise to people who live within five miles of the restaurant, who have an upcoming birthday in the next couple weeks, put a picture in there, or a video, actually do a short video. Take out your cell phone and say, "Hey, what's up, "my name is Billy Gene, I own Bill's Barbecue "and I see it's your birthday comin' up. "I'd love to give ya some roasted chicken "for free for your birthday, come in!" And then you bring them to a page, and you ask them for their name, email, and phone number, but you also ask them, "Who else is coming with you and how big is your party?" So this is a smart way to start booking out your birthday events, where you know the ticket's higher and you make a ton of money. See, what happens with this whole tech stuff, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube, is what you don't know will kill you, and it will put you out of business fast. Because what's happening right now is your competition is aware of this feature and they've been doing it for a year and a half. And you sit there and you wonder, "How the heck are so many people hearin' about them?" They just know stuff that you don't! So is this something that you guys can promise to implement? Right now, today, after this session? Yes, by show of hands, CreativeLive, thank you. (audience and Billy laughing) And everybody at home too, you're not gettin' outta this! Everyone can use this, and this is what I talked about in the beginning, I said, just because I didn't use an example of your industry doesn't mean you can't use it, like, gimme another industry in here, somebody, just yell it out. Plastic surgery. Plastic surgery, okay, watch this! Target advertised to women over 50, and say, "Hey, your birthday's coming up, it's the big 50. "Part of that's great 'cause you're like "'Look at my life and what I accomplished.' "The other part says, 'Oh my god, I'm 50, what do I do? "'Now I got wrinkles and all this other stuff "'that's happening,' well happy birthday, "I'll give you some Botox for free." (audience laughing) See, your creativity, ironic, at CreativeLive, your creativity is stopping you from making sales. Isn't that ironic? 'Kay, so anyways, again, I was just giving you that example, and as I go through more today, I need you to own that. What I just did for you, I need you to own that and apply it to your business. Continuing on, what else we got here, ah, engagements! You can advertise to people based on them getting engaged! So, how many of you are wedding, I know there's a wedding photographer in here. Are you usin' this right now? Yes. (audience laughs) See, she will be now whether she was or not, right? But watch this, you can literally go to people who recently just got engaged, and say, "Hey, I know you just got engaged. "Let me shoot your engagement photos for free." Go there, bang out a cute couples pic so they can post it on Facebook and they can announce it and all those other things. And then, do you think that person's chances, if you do a good job and they like you, they're gonna hire you at the wedding? See what I'm saying? It's that simple, like, it doesn't hafta be crazy. Facebook is a basic pumpkin spice latte and nothin' more, okay. Continuing on here, let's see, oh, you can do all kinds of cool stuff. Step three, right, step one was pretty simple, step two, straightforward, step three, ask them to buy. This is where everybody sucks, that's okay, right. We gotta be honest about it so we can get better at it. If you lie about it and you're in denial, you're not gonna do nothin' to fix it. So that's alright, and this is where everybody fails, ask them to buy. Understand this, there's only a couple ways to do that online, or on Facebook. One of those is you hafta actually ask for their credit card on the web page. That is one of the most difficult things to do, I want you guys to realize that. So if you've ever ran an ad, you guys at home, too, and you've said, "Hey, this is my product, buy now," you're gonna lose, it's just hard. That's hard for someone like me and this is all I do, 'kay. So you hafta realize the challenge there, especially if it's a low ticket, it just, the margins usually don't work out. Secondly, the other way you can sell is with words! Writing an email, right, isn't that crazy? Step three, video, my favorite way to sell, I'll explain why more. Number four, livestreams, livestreams. By the way, if you're watching this live right now, there's a button along the left-hand side or right-hand side where you can buy this course, I think that's a good idea. So ahead and click that right now or your credit score will decrease by 300 points, so I highly recommend you press the button. Do it, what do you, hey, hey, hey, press! I'm not teaching anymore, I'm done, I'm gonna wait until at least one person buys. Chris, let me know when it happens, we'll sit here. (audience laughing) See, you can make an offer and not be a douche, you know what I mean? You can have fun with it. There I literally just told someone to buy but I had fun with it, make 'em laugh, it's okay to do. They can see your personality, livestream, you guys gotta use it, 'kay. Continuing on, over the phone. We live in a day and age where everybody hates the phone! Or you think you're this big, bad, macho CEO, or just an arrogant one, who says, "I'm not getting on the phone, I'm the CEO of my company." Got a team of two, but you refuse to get on the phone. (audience laughing) Think it ruins your position? let me tell you what ruins your position. Not caring enough to get on the phone with your customers. Right, but how many times do we sleep on that? You know how good it makes someone to feel when they see your ads or they hear about you and then they see that you pick up the phone and just let 'em know that you care? We just forget about it online, no, not online, we just forget about the basics.

Billy lights up the room with his energy and deep expertise. A true practitioner, Billy shares from his past successes and teaches how to capture someone's attention on Facebook (use Video!) and turn it into a customer! I'm super grateful for how hands on Billy is in his course and I learned a lot from his "hot seats" with the audience.
