What Inspires Benjamin
Something that I get asked a lot is, what are my inspirations? Who do I go to to seek inspiration for my photography? And for me it, who? That doesn't, it doesn't work for me to say who. It's more of a what, what inspires me? And it doesn't come from photography so much as it does with design, fashion and architecture. And ways that, you know, other industries have curated color. And the way that they, you know, will put things together, even in an outfit, for instance. I'm always looking at these things and then, you know, I see like the way that a building is designed, it's so clean and minimal. And then I go out in the landscape, and I've just got that vision of what I saw in my mind. And, I apply that to the landscape, you know the way that even two walls are painted and how those colors blend together. And I'm thinking, wow, like that sand color with that with that white wall. It's like, it's just so refreshing to look at, but it's got this cool kind of rustic edge. I'm gonna go o...
ut into the landscape, in the fall maybe, and I'm gonna look for those colors. And if I can't find them, I'm gonna take an image and go back to light room, see if I can recreate those colors, and how that looks in a landscape. So, my inspirations come from external sources, I think. And you know, don't let photography limit you. Like, search beyond, go out and maybe picking up a magazine, that's about buildings, for example. Cool architecture or anything, really, even music. I find a lot of inspiration from music in these kind of... I tend to listen to a lot of piano, kind of electric, electronic piano, maybe you could call it. I know that the guys don't like it, but Neoclassical, the genre, I'm always listening to it. My friend Olafur Arnalds, he's amazing producer here in Iceland, and a film composer. And his music really is a big part of my editing. I'm listening to all his music all the time. When I'm maybe, you know, thinking about a creative edit. Something that I don't really know the direction that this image is gonna go. The music kind of just swells in my mind, and helps me to process and dig deeper in my creativity. And then it, you know, I look back and in five minutes. I've gone, whoa, how did I do that? And then something strange has happened in the edit, some sort of crazy mix of filters. I dunno. These things all play a huge part in my style, I think.

Very Informative & Awe Inspiring Both Benjamin and Alex have played huge roles in my photographic style development over the years and it is great to hear first hand exactly what inspires and drives Ben to keep pushing his creative boundaries. Personally, I love his minimalist approach and it was super insightful to watch him explain how he developed that style and how he actively produces photographs in a cohesive manner. 10/10 recommend this workshop to anyone looking for a very unique and profound perspective with the intent of expanding your creative horizons.

Moving to Iceland now...? Loved this workshop! I really liked the way the modules are split up, and the way you watch Benjamin go out on location for a shot, then immediately sit down and watch his editing process for that specific shot. So much editing to learn too, since he doesn't use presets! The workbook is also super thorough, so printing it out allowed me to pay close attention and just add little notes here and there. The Iceland road guide is also SO helpful and in depth. Can't wait to use it. Also loved that Ben talked about printing your own work. Would be cool to maybe see something from Wildist in the future that goes even more into depth on that (calibrating your own printer, working with a print shop, dropship sites, etc.) Awesome course. First Workshop The first workshop I have ever purchased. I've always been hesitant to invest in a workshop, however this went above and beyond my expectations. Fluid in progression, great insight and a super relaxed learning curve full of information. I feel this has prepared me to take my own personal photographic journey to the next level.
