Menu: My Menu

And here we get to My Menu, which is everyone's favorite menu because this is what you get to customize. So, if you recall, we got a bunch of dials and buttons on the camera, and a lot of those buttons can be reprogrammed. So anything really important should probably go on to one of those buttons. We then have the Function Menu, which is a list of 12 items that we can program in that we can get to with one button press, which is pretty nice. Now, for everything else there is the full-blown menu, but you don't want to get lost in there. If you want to program things to My Menu, you can do that. So, let's go ahead and do a little demo here. Let's add some items and create a My Menu here. Let's go ahead and turn this camera on, and we're gonna dive into the menu system. We're gonna to to My Menu. We're gonna go up here to the top tabs, come all the way over to My Menu. We're gonna come down, and the only thing that we can really do right now is we can add an item. So now, we're gonna have...

a list, 32 pages, of stuff that we might want to add. Let's just add Quality, Enter, it's added. Okay, let's add Image Size. And I can move this line up and down, so if I want to put it above Quality, I can put it there. It's added there. Let's go down and just grab some random stuff that we might want, whoops. This is page one of 32. Let's go to another one. Let's find somethin' else. I use the Self-timer quite a bit. It's fine right there. Go on, let's fill this up. Let's do Focusing Area. Actually, put it there. Let's do Focus Settings. Now, this is page one of five of My Menu. I can go over here to page two and add it to page two. So, that's added to page two. Now if I back out of this, and I just go back to the shooting mode, now I press Menu. You're gonna see I'm in My Menu. There's three pages in here. The third page is kind of your organization page. Page two has my focus settings. Page one has the settings that I've added in there. Now I can come back in here and I can continue to, I can sort the items. And so, for instance, if I want to move Self-timer up, that's more important, I can have it up here at the top of the list. And then I can hit Menu to exit out of this. I could Delete Items. I could Delete Pages. I could go back in to Add Items. If I want to come over here and let's go look for some really different stuff, let's have the Focus Magnifier. That's a good one. Let's add that on to a page three. Okay, let's add in, okay, yeah, let's do Peeking, Peeking Level. And we'll add that in to page five. I forget how many, I think we can do 30 different items in here. We'll do Peeking Color, and we'll add it in right there below it. And let's call that good right now just as an example. So now when I hit Menu and I back out of this, when I come back into the Menu, I have my fifth page here as far as organization. I got my Peeking stuff on four. I got my Magnifier on three, Focus settings on two, and then a bunch of items on one. And so, I think we can get one, two, three, four, five, six, six times five, I think you have six items on five pages for 30 items in there. I encourage you to go through the menu system. Find anything that you want to use on a regular basis, and then start organizing My Menu. Once you get that set up, you are gonna be so fast using this camera. You are never gonna need to dive in to the full menu system, except in just the rarest of circumstances. Great way to customize. Get all those buttons customized. C1, C2, C3, My Menu, and make this camera totally yours. That way, if anyone else picks it up, they're totally lost.

I've taken lots of John's classes as my photography journey has unfolded. Like all good teachers, John has a fantastic ability to take concepts which are complex and could be overwhelming, and making them accessible and much simpler. I'm lucky enough to own this amazing camera, I'm sure I'll get even more enjoyment from using it after taking this class - John has done so much of the hard work of learning away, now I feel like I can just start enjoying it!

Great information as always, John's approach is amazing, well paced and very informative. I own so many of his amazing tutorials, I feel like he's part of my family - but a lot more knowledgeable 😏
