Career Opportunity Day
today is a career opportunity day and career Opportunity Day is where I want you to start thinking about, like what? All the things that you really need to be putting into action that need to happen for you to actually get these kinds of opportunities that will move your career forward. And one of the things you want to dio is to build a spider web off support this idea. I learned from a wonderful, very smart woman by the name of Eric Allowance for Towards for a Large Fortune 500 company. And she said to me that one of the reasons she mentors other people or volunteers to mentor other people in her organization is because she gets to train people in her style who understand what she doesn't. How she does it, who then are everywhere. So when a project needs to be supported by other people, or when you know something important happens, she can rely on them to support her because she's given them something and now they're going to giving her something back in return. So the key to obtaini...
ng these opportunities well, you have to get noticed right? Without anybody noticing you How would you ever get an opportunity? So if you just sit in your office on your cubicle and you never come out, an opportunity isn't going to come to people not magically finding out how brilliant you are. You kind of have to go out and tell them what that is all about. So it means that you need to broaden your perspective. I want you to step outside off your comfort zone. I want you to think about all the aspect off your company that you may have never paid attention to. But the trick is it should be connected to the direct success off your department or what you do. So, for example, sales and marketing are directly connected. So if you're neither one department mixture, you get to know the other department is really easy for sales to blame marketing and for marketing to blame sales for the numbers. But what if two of them would really collaborate? So one way to do it is to, of course, go and ask people to connect with you and to make meeting. So you really understand what they're going through and what they need to be successful and in return, you can tell them what you need or what your department needs to be successful. That will improve the visibility off you in your company, and that will make people notice you for that reason that it looks like you actually interested in everybody succeeding. So you're not just a part of the whole, but you are looking at the whole part off the company, and you understand that your part connects with other parts and that makes you so much more powerful and increases your visibility. And when other people noticing you, guess what your confidence goes through the roof. There's a great quote. It says We change the world not by what we say or do, but as a consequence of what we have become, says David Hawkins. And that means that you can talk all day long, but at the end of the day, it's really your actions that are going to determine how other people feel or talk about you. So today your lesson is to identify influencers in other departments and befriend them. And as I said, it is key to creating opportunities because the more people know how fabulous you are and how intelligent and how smart and engaging you are and perhaps how funny you are, the more people ah willing to create opportunities for you or, at the very least, actually tell you when an opportunity like that comes along. So today's lesson is, please go to the workbook on page number five and fill out the top part. Really think about you know who these people are that you should be befriending or the dose those departments and then be very specific and may have to do a little bit of research, who those people actually are, and then make an effort to actually connect with them and befriend them, Thank you very much, and that's the end of today's lesson.
