Analysis Introduction

before I do anything to the site before I change the title tag or build a link or lift a finger to help SEO execution I start with analysis. My goal is to catalog the current state of ceo for the company, in this case kids health dot org. So I can figure out what S. C. O related projects to take on first and then later report on how my projects have helped the company increase their rankings. S. C. O. Analysis includes doing a Technical SEO audit, a content audit, a link audit and a keyword ranking audit. And of all of these audits, I usually start with the technical SC. So in this lesson I'll give you a high level overview of this audit and talk about why it's important. So what's the technical S. C. O on it? Well, sometimes your site's own code will get in the way of rankings. For instance, if the websites robots dot txT file blocks google from crawling an important page or maybe if the website has accidentally created hundreds of versions of the same page, causing google to be confu...

sed as to which pages should rank. We'll discover all these problems and more in this phase of analysis. Quite simply during the technical SEO audit, I want to discover as many code based roadblocks to rankings as possible and then I work with my development team to remove those problems in general, I will do a technical SEO audit for my websites when I'm starting a new engagement or launching a new site when rankings drops suddenly, which is part of the oops, something happened on it When the team wants to migrate from one set of euros to another. Say moving the blog from blog dot domain dot com to W W dot domain dot com slash blog. When the team has done a lot of SEO work, built lots of content and links, but nothing has changed. And finally actually do a pared down version of this audit just about every week, particularly for sites that have a lot of people working on the website. Sometimes other teams will release code and actually break SEO rankings, say maybe someone adds a no index tag on the homepage. It actually happens often even at the largest of companies. So I track issues from week to week Now, every analyst has their own way for doing a technical SEO audit. They have different tools they use and perhaps they have a different process for working with their development teams. But in the next few lessons I'll show you my basic framework for doing this work which boils down to how to check google's index checking, google search council, setting up your crawler, reviewing the crawler reports and finally reviewing page speed reports. I'll walk you through all these steps and give you a template to record your findings. So let's get started with our technical SEO audit starting with the end in mind which is recording your findings. So you can review with your teams
