Reporting on the progress of your work using Asana
Okay, so it's really hard doing SEO work as many of you, I'm sure know, but you must must must report on the progress of your work that you're doing, even if it takes a while to show results, you must must must report on the work. And here is my secret to reporting on the work. Now, I'm going to show you my asana layout and how I use asana to communicate up down and cross to my various stakeholders about SEO here. You'll see my style is to do a can band style and so we have whole bunch of lists here and we move every week I'll meet with the team to move these cards into the other lists. And so first it starts with the project and these are the overarching projects and I'll get how they work next. Then there's a backlog. This is just a log of all of our ideas and it's a running list every week we decide what projects will be moved into in progress, which means we're working on them. I have an internal editor slide here. So if you're working with compliance or QA this is where I'll put t...
hat before it goes to the boss or the main stakeholder and that's where they will pick up the work. If it's in designer Deb Now, this could be interchangeable with um internal edit. I just for this particular workflow, we have it here and then I like to keep a log of what was launched each month. So after some things done, I put it in launch and then depending on the month. It well you can see what was generated here. So I want to go into the anatomy of each ticket so you can see how I create them. So each ticket has a summary and a request. And the request is really like a requirement where we list the important features. And so let's create a ticket that has to do with creating a lot of content. And so here we go. Created in the backlog, let's say one of the problems that we found when doing our site audit was that there was a lot of duplicate content pages. And so first I would say um the name of the project which is update all, duplicate title tags with unique title tags. Then you can put who's assigned to it. I've added these custom fields for priority. Although usually just it's a force rank where you can see the thing at the top is that has the highest priority but we still have it anyway. Sometimes some project managers like that the task is in progress are waiting to be deferred. It's important to have this one because if you're being if you're waiting to be deferred, you need to know. Um and then I like to have the type of work, is it technical SEO content, outreach or analytics. So three different ranking factors or something else. Let's put this as technical this content and so summary all of our title tags duplicate each other and we need to update them. This is where you can take directly from your spreadsheet. And so if you if you have a summary of the problem the spreadsheet you talk about who does the work when you talk about the impact, I would just copy and paste all of that to hear. But if you find something ad hoc requirements, what would be required for this work to be successful? It's important. You tell your engineering and design teams is so number one, all title tags are updated and no longer duplicative number two, all titles are updated with the following title tags and you can list out title tag one tired all I don't tag to, you can list out each title tag that you want to change here. But just important to note that you should, you should list out everything that you want to happen in this ticket. Do not leave anything out so that there's nothing left to chance. You want to clearly communicate everything that needs to happen. And that's really the basis of a good ticket. Now when you get together once a week, you can set your due dates, let's say this due date is on the october so that's what we think is going to be done this week and then who is assigned to pick me and then the great thing about this in terms of reporting your progress when you go to calendar view, you'll see that here. If it's completed, it'll be faded out like that. So if if you've already done the work, it'll be faded out. If it's not done, it's bright, bright hot and looking for someone to do it. And so I used a combination of agile boards and this calendar to report on the progress of all my work that I'm doing for my clients and that's it.
