This was my set up when I went to iceland you know how usually in a hotel if you're like feeling around the bed looking for ah out outlet for your phone too charge in the states usually end up with leased to sitting there once got the alarm clock innit one's got the lamp for your bed right you have to disconnect something well in iceland ugo and it's like there's one plug in the wall and I gotta charge my what is this this charge my camera battery this is some device over there this is my laptop that's my phone and then this is thie electrical adapter for the u s power so I first this on facebook and people were like dude you're gonna cause a fire here and it's actually not bad at all here because this is to twenty in two twenty the higher the voltage is the smaller the wires he need so it's actually makes it so it's not a spat as it looks but I wanted to make an effect here where it looked as if there was electricity going around this thing and let's see how we might be able to accomp...
lish that and I'm not going to spend the time to make it look perfect it's just a matter of how much time you spend painting yes right but you'll get the general concept so I'm gonna create a brand new layer on top of this image and in here, I'm going to just fill this layer with black. One way of filling with blackest type option. Delete that's, ault, backspace and windows. I need to be able to see what's underneath. So, aiken, see where to paint? Song is gonna lower the opacity of this just a little bit. Just enough. We're going to see it. Grab a paintbrush tool and with a soft edge brush I'm gonna pay with white. So what do I got? I have a picture on top of it. The lair full of black. I'm painting with white with soft brush and I'm just gonna paint around this particular shape like that pretty simple right now, let's. See if I can get that tow look at all like it's. Little electrical like lightning going around. I'm gonna bring my opacity back up one hundred percent so I could no longer see what's under it. And I'm going to apply a filter to this that is called filter render difference clouds filter render difference clouds difference clouds is similar to the normal clouds filter, although instead of completely replacing what's in a layer, it interacts with what's in that layer in a weird way and if I use difference clouds let's, see what we get, do you see a little black shape? That little black shape is sitting right around the edge of where I painted well if you have a little black shape and what you really want is a white one because electrical stuff like lightning would be more white really want the exact opposite of this after applying that and so to get the exact opposite we've done it multiple times in the past you invert something, don't you? So now do you get a little sense for our little white uh little electrical happening in there? And the only problem is we have the clouds everywhere else and I'd rather not have that so in order to get rid of the clouds everywhere else I'm just going to come in here and adjust this like we have met with many other images but levels in levels the upper left slider force's areas to black and so I'm just gonna bring it in until the main thing we have left is our little electrical storm and it's matter of how much detail do you want in it if you bring it up so you get rid of every background item, you're probably lose some of the fidelity of it but if you bring it up just enough click okay? You can always grab your paintbrush tool and paint with black just clean up those little bitty pieces that are left you know this little stuff just taking a few seconds to do that then you remember before when we ended up creating something that resembled rain in how look not too similar to this in that we had a large black mass we had little bitty lighter things and there was a way that we applied that to what was underneath it was a way where uh it used light and so anywhere to create this image where you wouldn't need any light that's where you have black would just disappear in areas that are brighter would end up writing what's underneath and that was to change the bloody mode on this to a choice called screen and so now we can have something that might resemble a little hint of a lot of electricity and if you simply do this multiple times if you end up maybe painting over it let's say four, five times I could make an animation that just switches between them and it would look like it is, you know, undulating the electricity and so looks kind of cheesy here but you can use us for all sorts of things and if you ever create any scenes where you want little ria sky with a little lightning bolt coming down you could simply make a document that is it happens right where the transition is from, where you painted with white where you paying with black you could just make half the document white half the document black in a soft transition between it run difference clouds and you get that jaggi interesting line right down the center of it before we talked about like getting a painterly look painting our image sometimes there are certain effects where the filters just do moe is to work for me and let's see if I can show you one of those things because there's something that I find makes clouds look really interesting and painterly and sometimes I'll do this is a base and then I'll paint on top of it with the natural media brush but I showed you earlier and what it is is I'm just going to duplicate this layer by typing command j although I could do this with a smart filter if I wanted to as well I usually like me on the paint on the end result though and change it and if it's on a smart filter it's kind of stuck on that layer if I type command j though into just duplicate this layer we should be fine I mean and then go up to the filter menu two stylized and we have a choice called find edges which is just going to draw around this these little lines all I'm going to do after that is change the bloody mode to a bloody mode that is not used all that often and it is one that is called take me a minute find it divide take a look at what those clouds look like this was fined edges filter and then divide blending mode I'll turn this off here's before and that I'll turn this back on does that have a little painterly feel to it that could be a pretty cool start toe a painterly looking sky I don't frequently like it in other parts of the photo look at the bottom of the photo looks terrible but if you have skies especially skies that don't have blown out detail you want little you want highlight details still be in it then this khun look nice if there's any place that's blown out I might have had some blood out detail right here is going to be too much but I really like that look as a starting point for skies and make its sometimes makes it feel as if I've done a lot more work than I really have I can always create a layer above that and then just used my um mixing brush tell it that what's underneath is wet and just kind of move around a little bit and fine tune the end result but to me that's a really nice start I would simply mask it so it doesn't affect the bottom part of the picture because it's just doesn't help anything but a sky but adelaide mask paint with black and you don't have to have it down below so but anyway throughout the last two days we have been looking at creative ways of thinking in photo shop and we've gone through a bunch of different techniques here the main thing is to look at which of those techniques you really think are going to help with whatever you do and spend the time with the on ly those techniques and ignore the rest um and this is some of the creative things that I do do we have questions there's a handful of people whose heads are exploding on this one yeah like this one's like one of the easy I know but it's like it's just it's just beautiful I mean there's been you know, all the stuff some pretty pretty solid stuff but I'm not a known intimate questions you are asking very specific thing yeah rule specific stuff okay, uh well, I mean in general I've covered most they're everything I was thinking of there was one thing at a technical difficulty on which makes it so I wasn't going to get into but I can just share one other technique then cool I'll make something up, we're hungry for stuff I'll make something up I want a unique look to a photograph, something I don't know if I called antique just different if you get sick of blue skies and your photographs and you want your colors to look a little more different, I could come in here and type command j to duplicate a layer, goto the filter menu and see if I can find the filter called solar eyes, which is somewhere near the bottom stylized solar eyes. So it's filter stylized solar eyes were cannot duplicate layer. Now that's going to invert the sky in a unique way and I afterwards make it so instead of having this is my end result, I simply change the bloody mode and often times change it to hugh. What that's going to do for me in this case, it's a bit much at the very top, and sometimes you can try the other modes. Let me cycle through them. Uh, the way cycle through the modes is used the move tool, and with the move tool, you end up holding down the shift key and hitting the plus sign on your keyboard. But in cycling through the mod's, oftentimes I'll end up finding one of the modes that will give me an interesting looking sky were instead of having a boring blue one, I'll have one with a little more color and see if I can find one for this particular image. Color mode in this case looks like color mode in this case, and then I'll back off on it a bit. In often mask it this image, though. I'm not liking it as much. I tried it on a different image before. Let's. See if I can find a better look at that. And I think this might be near tulsa, oklahoma, on route sixty six. Uh, if you want to try to find it, duplicate the layer solar eyes and then experiment with your blending modes. But oftentimes color hugh and lower the opacity. And, in fact, these images are that's not working as good as it does on some.

well I would recommend it sort of. I think much of the chapters show you how to use things without giving good examples or reasons such as with the brushes part. The photo on the cover is never worked on or really any of the topics didn't talk about how to achieve that look. I did learn some things as I have a lot to learn. I have been using the textures with great success. He does a nice job of explaining...I just don;t think we saw enough start to finish work.
