Logo Production

But they still need business systems. I mean, everybody needs, I mean business cards haven't gone out of fashion yet. No. Not that I know of. Yeah, I mean, I love a good business card. Yeah, business cards are great. So, I was really excited to do his business card. And we got them, A standard size business card. 'Cause you get all those goofy ones that are the weird sizes and you can't-- Well, and it was interesting 'cause I always used MOO to get my business cards printed, and they offer the European size. So it's a little bit different than standard, but it's not like small and skinny. It's just a little bit fatter. So, the version of the logo that worked really good on the business card was the locked up version. Not the horizontal one on his website. So we did the locked up version and then we kept it really minimal on the one side. Again, If you think about it I'm just using black for his only color. But then 80% of that for his logo, and then I adjusted some of the...

text on the business card to 40% black so the word Insta appears as gray. So just really playing with the little nuances that you can add to your system. Well, and it's also great, I mean in this case you have amazing colors in the photography. So when you're setting up your system and you're seeing if photography's gonna play a piece of my branding system, and so the logo's gonna be part of that as well, the colors in the logo might compete with the colors of the photography. Just needs to be very quiet. Very neutral. And his business card system had four different backs of the cards, Oh, cool. So that was nice. That was the little moment where you get to see his work and then also get his information. That's great. Hey, Lara, I just wanted to point out that, I'm not sure if you guys mentioned it, but Lara has a great, once you guys develop your logo, Lara has a great business card design class. It's a short little class. You know, just a super, super informative, like I believe it's just like a couple of hours, but can really take you from beginning to end to learning how to design a business card. It's great, great class. Yep. Very cool. You didn't mention that. No. (laughing) You're like, I forgot about that too. Yeah, but that's great. So this business card turned out really nice. So, is he happy? And he also-- Yeah, and he uses this on his invoices, actually we talked about packaging of his photographs and came up with a solution where he uses a sticker. So there's just really one branding element there. And so if you wrap something in craft paper and have like this sticker, all of a sudden it becomes intentional branding. You know what I mean? So I love stickers 'cause I think they work really well Stickers are great. For different things. I went through a period where I was doing a lot of logos and one of the things that I demanded of them to pay for was a rubber stamp. I loved the idea Oh, that's a good idea. Of a rubber stamp. And when you're working with big nice blocky logos like this that making it branding anything basically with that rubber stamp. No need to get an envelop printed or paper Letterhead. Exactly. Good stuff. So he was really happy with it. He's got, again, he's just sort of amazed that he could do all these things with one transparent PNG. Yeah, I'm actually kinda down with that too. That's pretty cool. Forget all those other formats we talked about, PNG all the way. Yeah that worked really well. Right on. Cool. Thanks a lot Lara. Do you guys have any questions? Yeah, that was really great. I was just wondering if Creative Live already has a class on typography? And if not if that might be something that is coming. We do. You do? Yeah. Oh, that's exciting. We've got a typography fundamentals class which covers everything about typography. And then, actually, the business card class talks a lot about what I was talking about, like when making decisions about setting your typography specific to a brand scenario or a use case like a business card. So, we've actually got a whole suite. Awesome. Typography's great. It's a rabbit hole. (laughing) Yes it is. You will dive in and no one will see you again.

I want to thank Matthew for a great insight into designing a logo. I am not an artist, have no creative experience in the digital or marketing or banding world, and because of this class, I actually designed a logo! I want to open a small kids art studio for classes in my neighborhood and I was looking to design my own logo to use in a Wordpress site and small scale branding/marketing and some building signage, and thanks to Matthew's easy and sensible approach to design, i was able to it. I def. recommend this class.

Loved all the prep work info and how that translates into a great logo design. The class was easy to follow, the instructor answered some great questions, and it was a great overview of how to create a logo.

Great intro to logo design. Matthew outlined some great steps to take to kick off my logo creation process. I think I'll be able to save a lot of time and money working with a pro for final design as I'll be able to come to them with a more clear idea of what I'm looking for.
