Fix Red Eye & Pet Eye

The other thing that I wanted to show you, let's go back to our photo bin and let's take a look at this red-eye. So this is a big thing and I told you it was really quick and easy to fix and that's why we don't run the auto red-eye scan because it's so easy. So here we are in our quick edit workspace and there's this little button right here, this tool of a red-eye and that's what it's for, it's fixing red-eye. So you'll notice down here there's a button to just auto-correct, so I can just click that, boop and it's gonna think for a minute, it's scanning the image and ta dah, it fixed it. So that's all there is to it really, but you can see it did take a moment, so that's why we don't run it when we import all of our photos because if you take that many moments, multiply times thousands of photos, it's going to be a long process. Let's undo that, so we can try it manually so you can get the idea. I'm just gonna zoom in here. And once I zoom in I can hold the space bar to drag this imag...

e down so I can get a better look. So the way that this tool works is you just position it on the red part of their eye and you click and it fills it in with dark. So I can come over here and do that eye as well. If I want to adjust, like sometimes it doesn't fill it in all the way or it misses the edges or it doesn't make it dark enough or it makes it too dark. If you want to adjust it you want to undo the command and then make the adjustment here and then redo it. So maybe if I want it less dark. Let's see how that looks now. It still looks pretty good. So there's a lot of choices for doing this, the auto or doing it manually or even making all these adjustments but it's really simple. So that's all there is to correcting red-eye. You'll notice there's an option down here for pet's eye so let's take a peek at what that looks like with this image here. We'll go back to the red-eye tool and I'm gonna turn on the option for pet's eye. Pet eye is a whole different phenomenon but people, you know, they're creeped out, they want to fix that too. So pet eye also works. There is not an auto-correct option for pet eye so sorry, Fluffy. But that one didn't work quite as well so I'm gonna undo that and see if we can increase the pupil radius and maybe darken it a little more. You just have to experiment. Oh yeah, that was better. I think that produced a better result. So you can feel free to play with this, just remember you have to adjust this before you do the command. So if you make it and you don't like it, undo it, then adjust it and then redo it.

Just watching this class live. It's my first class with Khara; she is a wonderful teacher, moving at a steady speed but always being careful to let us know what she's doing in the moment. I would classify myself as intermediate in terms of PSE but I've learned lots of little things that will make further use even easier and more fun. I really appreciated her descriptions of the difference between PS and PSE and her encouragement in using Photoshop Elements and all that it can do.

I have only been able to watch portions of this class but every single part that I have watched has been technically clear and inspiring to me. Based on this experience and the thorough, 58 item list of lessons, I will surely be buying this class soon! Thank you Khara and Creativelive for making a class on this topic and making it be super!!
