Setting up a Home Studio
All right, so the thing that we want to go over here is this is about setting up your home studio, so this comes into picking the right mike for you at the technical level that you're at. So a lot of people, you know, the biggest concern they have is the technical set up recording, making sure they feel comfortable and there's quite a few different microphones out there. I'm just going to go over a handful, but trust me, there's, plenty of other ones that you can research like wendy was talking about today. If you don't know what the answer is, google it on youtube and you confined people testing mic spot. You know what the recommendations are, what they don't like. This is just the preference that trump so you're always open to try different mike's. So on the budget side, if you're looking for something, maybe you want to just test out recording, test out, actually going into the podcast world, you don't want to buy the whole mike set up lodging tech had set. He's a really cost effect...
ive they're just the ones that you know sit on your head we don't actually have one here to demonstrate but it's really easy there about thirty dollars you could get him at best buy their usb ports they'll plug right back in to your computer so with a mac if you're recording from a mac, you have to have a u s b port to plug that mike in I'll show you with a mixture how that plugs him but actually for that type of microphone you do need that you can't use the standard pc plug ins but for that it's very simple so you want to make sure that you're the microphone itself that it records from isn't just right in front your mouth anytime you record you want to make sure that it's not just right in front of your mouth on dso that's a very cost effective strategy the other thing today with mac products in peace even have a great recording I work on a mac so that's what I'm most familiar with but they have the built in eyesight cameras, they have the audio and when he was talking about earlier what we recorded on last night for some really great little intro pieces was just on the phone with the call recorder what memo memo recorder yeah and now on the tablets I mean, I've had people that are top marketers that have recorded interviews just from their tablets. So the technology today, I know we talk about audio being strong and having a good sound, but rob will tell you tomorrow you don't need to be an audio file, bro, following with your podcast, so if that's where you're starting from that is perfect, I'm going to show you in a couple of minutes here how to edit that out a little bit. Um, the only thing you want to be careful of if you're using, uh, an ipad or a phone and it's a lot of noise around it, it's going to pick up all of that noise, so if you could do the memo recorder, if you want to record them individually, have them take him off to the side and record that, if possible, because it's hard, you can't actually cut out the background noise when someone's voices on top of that it's only when you have to separate tracks. So I want you to be cognizant of that audio technica this is actually a great laval there, mike, that you've like, what we have here, straps on and and if you want to record from of camera and you want actually have it face to face, type a podcast, and then it'll actually connect in tow. All the different types of microphones, I've used it over and over for a lot of different videos very, very simple to use very easy to record. So for the podcast, if your stationery and your studying up that that station like abel's talking about the one we're going to go into here, this is the blue yeti. This is the pro that's, just the blue yeti. Now, this microphone, I'm gonna bring it over here for a second. It's actually heavy it's. Very happy. Okay, so when you set this up, you it's it's, actually usb port that actually the court goes in the bottom here and then you're going tio I don't have the court here but it's going to plug in just in the u s b port that's how simple it is to connect into your your computer. So what happens with this type of microphone on the back here, there's all these different types of studies of how you can actually have the audio come into the microphone. So whether it's going to record just from the sides, all sides, if you have multiple guests talking, if you're just doing a podcast words you talking an earmark microphone you wanted on the cardio aid studying, which is going to be the third one to the right which is right over here it looks like a little heart shaped upside down heart actually I believe on dh then this is your gain so this is your volume when you're talking in to the microphone anytime you're a gain that's where I suggest putting this about in the middle okay or testing it sometimes people have really soft voices sometimes people have really loud voices, so you're going to want to test always test your microphone before you go into an interview just attack where it's at and I do suggest that almost every time because things will shift and sometimes skype like today with skype, you never know what's gonna happen and it could set off how your micah setups you just want to test the audio there and then with this on the front hand side them there's a little mute button here where you commute so if you're talking and sometimes one thing I want to know when you're interviewing other gods try to get them to have a microphone and a headset themselves because when you're recording on skype, you may have a fantastic setup, but what happens is on the other side if they're talking just into their computer audio, it'll pick up and you get reverberation sometimes and sometimes it's worse than others, so if you can try to educate your gust on being set up to have a microphone and have ear buds cry umm this microphone they range from anywhere about one hundred about three hundred dollars and get them on amazon so that's another choice typically the sometimes off sales on that so this is a great great microphone have know the one thing I want to note is we did a test like a vocal test here before in the studio this studio is soundproof this is set up for recording with the blue yeti this is a little bit different you're going tohave more of a a what's the word I'm looking for it won't have as much of a protected sound if you know what I'm talking about when you actually have that vocal quality if you have an open room it's gonna have more that echo sound so if you want to use this mike since it's a little bit more cost effective on the lower inside you can actually create if you're only going to be doing an audio podcast, you can create your own little sound booth you literally khun take ah box and it's just fill it with that egg styrofoam type of should be material and have this is obviously if you're going to do a audio podcast, you're not gonna have that for a video but you can tuck that on the inside and that's where you can create that soundproof quality studio okay, so that's the blue yeti and the microphone then what we have and you wanna have your phones of sorry you're going to need to have your microphone your headphones on this to hear it so when you plug in and we'll go into that in a second when you set up your studio what what microphone you're on, you want your input and your output both to be to the yeti and you have to have the earbuds otherwise you won't be able to hear the gas talking so that's why you want to purchase that? Okay, so then next what we have is this is the real podcaster. So this is the professional setup that you can use that's a great usb maker phone it's just a little bit of a different style so this is a standing microphone. Typically it comes like this that's how lots I was always set up so this one this is a great dynamic microphone. So this whole setup with the boom arm that's where that enables you to move the microphone up in front in different areas and then you have got the shock mount that so if anything bumps it doesn't, it doesn't rattle your microphone this whole set up about three hundred fifty dollars depends depends on what the differences are with that, but this is how simple this is, if you notice here there's just a they have a little bit set up down here, but you can have the extension where that goes right into connects into the shock mount within connects into the boom arm, and the boom arm just attach is right on the table. So when you get this is actually step by step. Okay, so this is a great microphone, a gun, it's, just a usb port make. It makes it really simple for you, so that when you, when I show you howto connecting to record your audio's, it'll pop up by the name of each of these microphone. So you can know exactly what microphone it isthe toe actually set to record. So you're not recording to soften your computer audio, or vice versa.

This is the best $149 I've spent on my blogging/podcasting journey so far. The course was so rich, so jam-packed with information and ideas. I am on fire with ideas (couldn't get to sleep last night because so many ideas were rattling around my brain!) and truly inspired to go out there and do it. I'll be posting my podcast launch on the Facebook Group when the time comes. Thank you, Kris!
