Composing Beautiful Dog Pictures

Photographing pets can sometimes be a huge talent we have solitude or sol here and she's a eight or nine maybe ten year old black lab it's so sweet she's super easy because she like a loves me on the count that she doesn't want to move yeah you're joe short you go girl staying erica girl and so I really love this situation because of a couple things number one the color we've got a red brick wall with the green pillow which are complementary colors on the color wheel we've got some really interesting windows need composition and the light coming in from this window over here to my left is really helping to illuminate solve very well however she's a black dog on a white couch which sometimes the camera doesn't see very well so I'm going to put my camera in high dynamic range mode to help me get those shadows and highlights and then I also want to compose the image so I put her in that lower left power point using the rule of thirds so when I lock my focus on her there we'll stay there g...

irl standing here she's like I e we don't want to take it okay up here good girl I'm gonna go ahead and put her where I want her you judge a good girl yes you stay there stay there steve good girl I kind of like her legs all a wonky like that and I'm going tio stay good girl I'm going to go ahead and lock my focus on her and then since she's so dark I'm going to go ahead and increase the exposure a little bit to brighten up the dark and her I'm going to go ahead and take a shot funny noises always worked great with dogs yeah one treat treat cookie oh yeah cookie on composing it to provide some interest he's a good girl yes just like I want a cookie I want to treat you want to try again one more time let's take a close up come on up you go big jump now I'm going to come in closer and just take a fun little this is all composition that you you wantto just decide on as you go, huh? Your girl my whites are a little bright um so I'm gonna dial down the exposure just a touch but I still want to get her shadows and highlights too oh this one you stay with your ball yes she's like I don't want a moment let me alone huh? And I'm going to increase that exposure just a little bit not too much and I want to blow out my whites what are you doing girl? Did you good dog your cookie retreat and just by talking the dogs and using language is that they but they know, like, treat her cookie, you can get them tow perk there's forward. But the biggest thing about this situation and making only known to shoes list just hard work. Being a lab is getting the light in the eyes. And so by putting her in front of this big picture window here, I'm seeing those beautiful catch lights in her eyes. You really can treat animals exactly like people you want to make sure. There's good light on him. Quality soft, light, she's a dark dog. So we may have tio kind of pump things up when we edit the images later to bring up her highlights and shadows, especially since she's on this white couch, which is a really high contrast, but overall, shooting animal images is really fun. It helps if they're sitting state trained. But if they're not just used that burst mode and try to get some some good images by shooting a lot of them quickly. Otherwise, use some fun noises. Interesting words, things think their attention. Animal sounds like ducks and geese always work. Great. Especially the lab like this. Get a good picture of of saul, huh? Uh, the girl.

Easy to understand, clear descriptions of iPhone capabilities, settings, and examples--and invitingly presented. More than just a description of the phone, etc. I feel excited and capable to take more and better pictures because I am more equipped to try new ideas rather than just point and shoot as usual. Lively and fun to watch! I watched the entire class!

Julia did a great job covering more than just the basics about iPhonography and the upgrade to 6s. I shoot professionally and was able to glean many great tips from her. Her suggestions on lighting, composition, etc are outstanding and well worth the time to watch this video. Thanks, Julia! I'll look for you on social media and begin following your work!
