How to shoot: First Look
So here we are at the first look, I've got the groom here, his back is towards the direction that the bride will come from. Now, the important things to remember here when shooting a first look are reactions and the bride herself. So what we're going to do as a single shooter is I'm gonna walk you through how to do this because it does get a little bit complicated if you had a second shooter, um it would be much easier because you can have two looks at the same time. But as a single shooter, this is what we're gonna do. We're gonna have the group room back facing where the bride's gonna come. I'm gonna go over there and shoot his face as she's walking up. So we'll be able to see both his face and her face. We're gonna come out, we're gonna shoot a wide of the two of them and then we're actually gonna flip sides so that when we have him turn around, we get his reaction because that's what we're trying to get. So let's go ahead and see how that works and I'll show you the photos. So let'...
s start with coming over here. Hello sir. You ready to see your bride for the first time? So I'm gonna start with taking a photo of our groom just smiling, looking in the camera. There it is. I'm gonna step to the side and now I'll be able to see both of them and I can switch focus between the two smile, Danielle, big smiles. There you go. And we can see that this is, this is kind of the classic shot. And what a really fun thing to do is while you have a lot of light is to actually shoot at a higher F stop. So if you shoot at an F 11, we'll be able to get both of them in focus just enough to make us see what is happening. And I just want the biggest cheesiest smile from you James. If you can do it, there, it is great. All right, I'm gonna go back to an F 28. So get that cool out of focus. Look. And now Danielle slowly walk up very good. In fact, you can just keep walking, keep walking, keep walking. Get within arm's distance of him. Very good. That's good. Stop right there. Do not turn around. Now, I'm gonna come around and I'm gonna shoot this two shot of them with, with what is about to happen. Big smiles, the two of you, you're looking great and, and now I'm gonna come around this side and when he turns around, I'm gonna ask him to turn around to his right. Don't do it yet. I'm gonna ask him to turn around to his right. And I'm gonna be here ready to photograph his look and he'll probably sometimes step back or he'll start crying or he'll try and grab at her. We don't know, but you have to be prepared to see what's going to happen. So we're gonna start there and then I'm gonna, after that happens, I'm gonna run back around here to get a shot of the two of them so I can get her reaction as well. Are you guys ready? So James don't do it yet, but Danielle's gonna tap you on your right shoulder and you're gonna turn around in that direction and see her for the first time. Daniel, go ahead. Fantastic. Beautiful. And you guys can hug for me. Yeah. No kissing though. Thank you. Fantastic. Great. So that worked out great. Now, if I had a second shooter, I would have stayed on this side and I would have had the other shooter doing this way or the other reaction and we try to not get in each other's way and it's much easier when you have two people filming this. Great. You guys are great. So let's go ahead and do some couple photos.
