Fusion Page: Interface
Let's explore the interface in the Fusion page. Starting out, we have probably the most obvious thing which is the right viewer. And this works just like your timeline viewer, just like the viewer in the cut page. It's very, very similar. The difference is that this viewer isn't necessarily what the audience is going to see. More on that in a second. We also have a second viewer to the left which I'll bring up by selecting a node and hitting one on the keyboard. And this can be used sort of like the source viewer in the edit page or the cut page with a couple of minor differences. Again, that we'll get into in a second. But you have two different windows here where you can preview whatever's happening in your nodes. Speaking of the nodes, that's probably the next most obvious thing about the interface is that you have this giant graph of these little boxes that are linked together in a flow chart. t'll start to make sense to you. Up above the nodes, we have our toolbar and it's a little bit confusing because you call it a toolbar, just like you would call this kind of middle toolbar here in the edit page, a toolbar where you'd pick a different tool and it will change your mouse pointer. But with Fusion, these actually will make various different kinds of nodes. And you can drag the icons down into the node graph to apply different effects. Over to the right, we have our inspector and this again works just like the inspector in the cut page and the edit page but there is a lot more emphasis on the inspector here in Fusion. I would say a major part of the work that you do here in the Fusion page happens in the inspector. And again, it's anything that you select. You can adjust the controls with here in this right inspector panel. Up above as always we have all the little buttons that switch out the different panels. We have our metadata panel just like in the other pages. And next to that, we have our key frames panel and this is where we can control some of the animation in our nodes. And so it'll list out every node and if anything's animated it will put little tick marks here and you can adjust the timing of different animations. Next step, we have our spline panel which I'll just make a couple little tweaks here so that we can actually see what's going on. Add a couple little key frames which we can go over in a second. But if I click on this little expand button right here then we can see a graph of this animation and we can see how the value kind of changes over time. The spline panel and the key frames panel are really important anytime you want something to move or change over time. In the upper left hand corner, we have our media pool again as well as our effects library, which is really just every effect that you could possibly make a node from. And again, just like our toolbar you can grab it and just drag it down into our node graph. And then next to the effects we can open our clips and here we can see all of the thumbnails from every clip in our timeline. Again, Fusion works on the same timeline as the other pages. So all of these clips down here in our clips panel are from our timeline right here in our edit page. And that's really a pretty good tour of the interface of the Fusion page.

I'm glad to see the DaVinci Resolve courses have been added to Creative Live. Casey Faris does a great job with his teaching. In this course he clearly explains the layout of each page and shares example workflows for each. It's really good as an intro to Resolve.
