Menu Overview
Let's go ahead and dive into the first parts of this menu section. So, if you remember earlier on, when we were talking about the mode dial, there are automatic, basic settings and then there's more manual settings. And if you are in the more manual settings, you'll have full access to the entire menu system. And so that's where you're gonna wanna be for the rest of the portion of this class and that's one of the many reasons why I like using those modes is that I get access to the full menu system. So I can get into any feature that I want to have. So when you press the menu, you will get into the menu system. And it starts off with this guided menu. If you recall, we talked about this a little bit earlier, but if you haven't seen it, there is the guided menu and the standard menu. And what we're gonna be doing here in this class is we're gonna be using the standard menu. It's a little bit easier to navigate once you get in here. And it's also similar to all the other Cannon cameras t...
hat are out on the market. And so to make that change, you can do that in the display level settings and so let's go ahead and check our camera to make sure that I and you are following along correctly. It helps to have the camera turned on, gotta remember that one. Hit the menu button and as you can see here, I do already have my camera in this mode here. Because it looks like the standard menu. And it's this menu display option that we can go from guided and when we hit the menu we get this nice little visual display. But it doesn't have quite as, it's not quite as easy to get around. So we're gonna change this to our standard setting. And in here, we'll talk about the other ones that we may wanna change in here as well. But it's mainly the menu display to standard and then we're gonna be good. So that when we hit the menu, we're gonna have these different tabs that we can get through. So the different tabs that we have, have many different options. Let's go ahead and take a look at these. And so these are pretty well logically grouped. Cannon does, arguably, the best of any of the manufacturers out there organizing where all their information is. Although, on this camera, the one thing that I think is a little bit unusual, as it is on a lot of Cannon cameras, is that a lot of the movie menu features are somewhat hidden. You have to be in the movie mode, in order to get into the movie menu. And so we'll talk about that when we get there. So there's a lot of options that are specifically different when you're in the movie mode and when you're in the shooting mode. Now, I like to do a settings map. Which is telling us where all the different features are in the menu system. I kind of like to get an idea of how much is located in each one of these tabs. I've had a number of cameras that I have done, other than Cannon, that are a little bit lopsided in where they throw all the features. And Cannon has done a pretty good job of dispersing the different features throughout the different tabs in here. So shooting menu deals with still images. Movie menu, obviously everything dealing with the movie. The playback menu is gonna have a short list of features, just dealing with playback. Set up menu are items that you typically don't use that often. A lot of times they're just gonna be initial set up items that you'll set once and be done with. And then in my menu, you'll be able to customize the camera to have several different tabs with all of your favorite items from all of the other different menus in there. And so once you get that populated with your favorite features, you won't need to dive into the rest of the menu. And so the diving around and playing that we're gonna do in the menu here is probably the most that most of us will do with this particular camera. Because once you get it dialed in correctly, you won't need to come back here too often.
