Back of Camera: Play Back

Alright, we have our playback button on the back of the camera so let's talk a little bit about playing images back on the camera. So, once you playback an image, the next thing that you'll want to be able to do is either go through, go through your images and so forward and back will be left and right on the cross keys on the back of the camera. We can also use the dial to jump more quickly, forward or back by 10 images. And, so if you really want to zoom through your images and get to the other end of them, it's going to be faster turning that dial. You can zoom in and check sharpness with the blue buttons in the back of the camera and then you'll navigate with the cross keys. You can, of course, delete your image and you'll notice that a lot of these playback functions have blue writing on them so anything in blue deals with playback. The display will take you through the cycle of different displays and so if you want to see information about what shutter speed, what aperture you sh...

ot, what the histogram looks like, what time you shot it, and various other settings by simply hitting the display button when it's in the playback mode, you're able to cycle through those modes. And, so, let me give you a quick little demo here. I want to show you something and so, first off, I'm just going to look through here and make sure that I'm pointed in the right area. And so I'm just going to shoot a photo right now and I'm going to play this back but I want to check to see if it's sharp so what I'm going to do is I'm going to hit the plus button here and I'm going to zoom in and you can see the little thumbnail down here and I can check to see if I'm sharp on this subject and I can move around and this is a great way to judge did I really get the sharpest photos possible? And then when I back up, I can see the whole image and I can of course move it around anywhere in here all the way back into a full frame image and then I can go back to thumbnails and so I can see a whole bunch of images and then I can start scrolling through images that I've shot. So you can see all those different images like that and so, if I see an image I like, I can go into it and, of course, I can hit the display buttons and it just cycles me through the different options on the displays. Alright and so that's the playback function. Now you can go into the quick menu as well in the playback mode and that's going to give us, once again, a shortcut to additional features. You can go in and you can protect images so that they can't be deleted. You can rotate them, you can rate them. You can add a creative filter to them and so, I wanted to show you some of the creative filters that we have so let's go ahead and take a look at some examples here. So let's start off with our normal JPEG and we have a number of different grainy black and white options with low standard or high contrast that we can get to. So you take a normal image, you create a copy of it, you never ruin the original, you're never going to damage the original image here. It will create a copy you can work with. You can do a soft focus picture. You might do this on a portrait, smooth out those skin tones. Low, standard, and high. There's a fish eye effect which, well, okay that's a little goofy and it mimics what a fish eye is doing. Not exactly but pretty close. There's a toy camera which adds a vignetting and kind of a plays around a little bit with the color scheme as well. The cool and the warm tone. There is a miniature effect which makes things look a little bit smaller in size cause it blurs the objects around them as well and so it can be some fun little modes to play with without damaging your original image and those are the creative filters that you can get into on the camera. Let me give you just a quick example. Let's see if I can go in, I'm going to hit playback so we can see an image. Let's see if I can find a slightly better image. Okay, let's just go with this. We're going to hit the queue menu. We're going to come down to creative filters and then I can choose a particular filter here and I'm going to go with a grainy black and white. And I can choose the high, standard, or low. Let's go with the high and hit the set button and save as a new file, okay. Image saved, okay. So now when I playback images... There's the original image and there's the black and white version of it and so we have two separate files. You never damage the original images, which is important to know. So that is the quick menu within the playback mode. Next up on the back of the camera, there's a little Wi-Fi lamp. Later in this class, in the second half, I'm going to talk about how to hook this camera up to your phone using an app to take remote photos and when that is activated there is a little light that let's you know that that particular feature is activated and using a little bit more battery power. There's a little access lamp which lets you know that your camera is writing information to the memory cards and you don't want to take the memory card out of the camera when that's on and working.
