Class Introduction

Welcome to CreativeLive. I'm Kenna Klosterman, your host for Newborn Safety and Posing with Kelly Brown. Now, this is Kelly's fourth time here on CreativeLive. She is the owner of Little Pieces Photography, and it is an ambassador for Canon Australia. Kelly is committed to raising the industry standards for newborn photography. So, please help me welcome back to the CreativeLive stage, Kelly Brown. (applause) Wow, it is really incredible to be back here to have the opportunity to share you know, what I'm most passionate about in terms of newborn photography is, it's really incredible. And to be embraced by so many people that you know, encouraging, and appreciate what it is that we're doing here and want to share the same information. We're all part of the same community. We're all part of the same team. So, for me to be back here and sharing again, it's just, I can't tell you how exciting it is. I'm a little nervous. I have so much I want to share. So, I'm really, really hoping that...

I don't forget anything. Because, there's just so much that we need to be aware of right now in our industry. And I actually really wish that I'd done this class first, in terms of all my other classes, because the safety aspect of what we do is just so important. Newborn frog photography is the fastest growing genre in our industry. You know, and with that growth it means that we just have so many photographers out there that are wanting to stand out from everybody else. They're wanting to create the next Bing image. They're trying to be unique. And it's not just new photographers. It's experienced photographers as well. It's just, it's something that you know, really sort of worries me in terms of the focus that we have on what it is that we do. So, what I'm going to be teaching over the next two days, is how to get beautiful, easy setups of babies, focus on how to achieve certain poses with no risk to the baby whatsoever, focusing on all the safety aspects. We're gonna learn how to operate a safe studio when it comes to workplace health and safety and having policies and procedures in place. We're also going to have a look at newborn behavior and how we understand all the different needs and learn to work specifically with them. And then you know, we're really gonna focus on every single baby and why we're employed as photographers. The purpose of what it is that we do, which is servicing our clients. For me, that's probably the biggest thing and I think at some point we all tend to lose sight of the purpose of why we're a photographer, you know? We all get caught up in the moment of you know, creating images and being a photographer and being an artist, but what it really comes down to is why we are employed by our clients. Why we're paid for a product and a service. And it's being able to deliver that product and service in a professional and safe way. It's not only going to help your studio, it's going to help raise the standards of our industry, which is really, really important. You know, we need to really stop worrying about getting that next big shot, stop worrying about how many likes we get on Facebook, and focus on our clients and servicing their needs. Before we start, what I do what to share is my disclaimer. For me, being able to come on here and share all of this information with you, I have to be careful. I have to protect myself. What I am going to teach you and what you're going to learn throughout these videos, is how I do it. And at no point at anytime, do I ever put a baby at risk. That's just, I mean, it's a no-brainer, really. It's common sense. But unfortunately, there are a lot of poses out there. There are a lot of images out there on the internet and youth photographers coming into our industry don't understand how some of those concept shots are created. They don't understand that they are composites or the different safety measures that are taken to create certain images. So, I really wanna strongly advise as well, that at no point is a baby ever put into any position or pose or any prop for the sake of getting their shot, you know? We need to work with these babies. And that's why we're gonna focus a little bit of our attention this morning on understanding newborn behavior and what it is that they are capable of. You also have to be really careful when it comes to your insurances and your client agreements and things like that. You have to know what your local zoning is, what your councils are, what your local governments and law systems are because if you don't understand those you could end up in... And if something goes wrong god forbid, you could end up in a little bit of strife. So yeah, I had this disclaimer in place by my lawyer and I think it's really important that all photographers actually do have some form of disclaimer when it comes to working with these precious little babies.

Kelly Brown is one of my favorite teachers not just in newborn photography but photography and learning in general. Her patience is inspiring and she makes this job seem so much more enjoyable and installs passion in you to improve and be the best you can be! Kelly is an expert at what she does and is great at communicating how she does it. I have taken the Creative live baby bootcamp class which is actually what got me to want to go into newborn photography! Ive also purchased a few of her newborn posing courses and I love them all. I literally own my new blossoming little career to Kelly! I love creative live, I have just learned so much from these courses. They are constantly giving out new classes that are so affordable and such amazing resources for any photographer or professional. I am so lucky to have discovered them and Kelly Brown. Thank you Kelly and creative live!

This is an amazing class! Kelly Brown offers a wealth of information that is comprehensive and straightforward. She has such a soothing voice and such great patience that it translates into becoming a great presenter and instructor. Her methodology both in business and her art are sensible and desirable which has taken me up significantly. She has helped me in understanding this business and how to become successful while doing what I love in a profitable and safe manner for both my clients and myself!

Kelly is such a fantastic instructor! This class is wonderful for both beginners & intermediate newborn photographers to improve their posing and keep safety number one. Not only does Kelly teach you step by step how to safely pose, she also explains why she poses the way she does - which is so important. This class is a great resource to watch over and over again until we are all masters!
