Creating Melodies

We just got done talking about drums, how to sequence drums and a little bit of my process of how I do that next we'll be talking about creating melodies so in this this is where the other side of the beauty of the main otherside of beauty of push comes in you are able tio expressively make the music you want to make without the sometimes people might say constraints of using a keyboard and trying to figure out okay where my hands need to be um and where did they need to go? You could just focus on certain patterns and things like that to be able to create the sounds that you're looking for. S o I'm going to change this view right here we're still on the, uh, the drum sequencer right now, but what I'm going to do is at another track, right? So we have we have a track open but let's just add another track so you could see that and we're going to just add a middie instrument to get to make melodies and things like that. So I'll click add track right here and then, as you remember on the ...

screen, it shows us where we can navigate and I'm going to go to all the way down to places, so these are some of the sounds that I have user library instruments, uh, extra packs so I have a couple in here there's one of the pax I have a czar super eight bits by a buddy of mine another certified trainer um brian funk who also goes by affraid afro d j mac uh and he's got a couple of eight bit sounds in here. Um I'll save those related it's kind of they're really intense sounding so we'll just kind of save those for later, all right? So you can navigate and get to everything you need inside and I'm gonna get this alfa juno here load that ups that's going to add a new track and then it's going to load the instrument right in there for me. So this is the view that we have for the note mode for melodic sounds says you could see it's very different from the drum secrets of mode we have uh, the's white of pads and we have these blue pads and the white pads are just notes in general the blue pads are you root note so I have four actives that I can go with on here. So if you notice when I press a note that's within range across way have this green showing up alon thea other notes so the pads allow you to kind of get around sometimes of your left or right hand you may like to play a certain way so if you want to like play this note right here but you only use your left hand you use your right hand you khun play over here the notes uh repeat going up and over s o push works up by fourths so right now it defaults to see and if I press on the pad here that see and then but what I mean by fourths is if I go one two I shall play higher to three for so I have the uh going out by fourths and then it goes down a fifth so if you are a guitar player um that right now may make a lot of sense to you but as we go through it I'll explain a little bit deeper how that works um so you can navigate up and down using the active up so like I was pressing this note let's say I wanted to play here on guy wanted to have it play a higher note I could just do active up things you could see push reflects what's available so now we're getting upto like seen eight or nine then we can go all the way down as well that's like barely a note so a cz you could see it's actually telling you right here as you go up and down play c three to c seven c two two c six and I also have pitch here see this one's a little bit too let's do this simple lead something's going I just hit browse again and I could just go in and swap it out so just like the hot swap and live again just to this one I loaded js shine if you noticed I have js for josh boone I just put in parentheses when you use apprentice e or dot it'll throw it at the top of the list so you can get to it a lot faster so I just hit just shine on depending on your instrument you can set the range now the great thing about the touch trip is I could play a note on just top on it so you can do you a nice little you know I know you're in the medal you said so you can kind of get that like depending on this since you're using and get that kind of like hammer on and that was a moron I know metal I was a huge pantera fan like pantera s so you could do that here on the strip and depending on your instrument you could set the range cool uh what I like to do is with these pads are you can just follow going right but if you notice when I go back up I have to remember where I left off so if you see the green moving on the second row I would have to go here you have to keep shifting over which if you like that that's fine, but the easier thing to do is to just go up by columns of three, so I have my root note right here. So one, two, three, four, five, six, seven and then one or some people say eight uh, but it's, just the octave up from where you are, so push allows you to easily move up and down just by three ceo, and it just makes it extremely simple just kind of move up and down, especially for medal once again, uh, you can, uh you know, and that you could be just kind of going crazy on it. I have decent amount of speed, but I've seen some people that are gotten pretty crazy on the push um divinci being one of them if you've never heard of him, look him up. It's really cool guy s o you have thes three that you could navigate up and down with on then you can start anywhere that you want as well, so I could start on the fourth note over here. You see it's really nice because I don't have to if you tried to do on the keyboard like ok so I can go back one and then the next one, I got to go to keys over. And the next time you go to and the other one one here, you're just going up, and you can do that from any position that you're in. So I could. I could start anywhere that I want and it's going to go in the same, um, increment of space, because everything is in key here, so I can start, you know, at seven and go seven, one, two, three, four s so that's very, very nice. It gives you a lot of these.
