Creating Chords
When I'm creating cords inside of the push uh, I have a lot of freedom to be able to come up like we were saying with different shapes and different things to make interesting sounds uh and interesting sequences but there's a couple of things you kind of understand need to understand before you kind of kid and it just kind of like messing around because you could mess around from the get go but there's a couple of things to be ableto make standard cords and things and such so like I said, you have to choose a scale any time that you're going to start using an instrument, so if we're gonna be doing accord, we want to pick what scale we're going to use and what key we're gonna be in so I'm actually to go back to the b flat minor because that is my favorite key, so I just picked my scale before I start trying to make cords and things like that and then after that what I'm gonna do is make sure that I have an instrument that will play a scale right now I have a lead, so I'm going to find a...
nother sent here let's actually see if we can get to the piano somebody was simpler real simple and I'm gonna go to pianos and keys as a category subcategory and then this grand should be grand piano all right and I'm going tio um get rid of this clip here and we'll talk more about that later but says have a regular basic piano and the first thing that you want to make sure that you understand is how to build triads which is a basic court and on push it's extremely simple so I try it is three notes it's your root note your third and your fifth so if you remember from us talking about how the actives go up by threes I have one two three four five six seven right so I said it's the first note and the third note the fifth note one two three four, five and if you look at it we have a nice triangle legend of zelda style so if you just do this like three teas uh you can man the cultural references you can uh display try it anybody you know you just have you kid come up here play it may be your cat walks across could play a try it on here very simple and um so you have the first third and fifth um so we'll show you a little graphic here so that's what it looks like a very simple and you could place your fingers anywhere you want close your eyes on if you make a really nice face like black becomes even more emotional um but that's really nice like so if you are not a piano player this is a godsend because you know I can just put my fingers like here and I don't know anything about diminished in augmented and this and that and all these things people are saying I just want to write some songs I'm I heard a song on the radio and I want to write a song like that and I was like, I don't want to get all into the technical stuff of it you just know I got to start here and play triads if you're extremely technical person does it matter like I'm slightly technical but I know things further than this I could play on a regular keyboard, but I still like this because I could focus on the relationships between the notes as opposed to memorizing b flat the memorizing g major and then also tried to like hominy and sequence of drugs and then when I mix this, how am I going to you know, I've got a lot of things I'm thinking about what I'm writing a song so the the as many things I can't get out of the way as possible to get to creating to me that's the most important part is not about being like, oh, I'm a genius and I know howto do this and then relative minor and augment that it's just I'm trying to write a song and I want to get that done this uh this structure here is just a nice tool to be able to create just like when you use the guitar or use a piano and they all have great purposes so you know, some people and I'm kind of talking about this for people were listening to may feel like this is cool but I feel like I might be cheating or something like that like I've felt that way in different things that I've done with electronic music but it's really about getting things done when you have a guitar it's in my opinion a lot simpler and then a piano but no one considers that cheating so whatever you need to do to create the sounds you want in the way that you like to create it use that instrument and the push is great for that s so try it's that's um how you start that uh then we have other records that we can do with push as well so we have the one three five that triad and let's say we want to play a seventh so a seventh is a triad with a note seven up from the roots so if I say two three four five six seven so I can do one on and you may notice that there's a shape there's a pattern that's kind of coming up this one works fine I'm playing those notes but if you noticed also there's a diamond that shows up and if I s o if I just put my fingers like a diamond with the root note starting for me on my thumb but depending on how you play it if you're rooting about no may be different but my route notes here so if I just play here hey mick emotional face um and you're good so there you have a seventh um and it's really nice because you khun d'oh this and then do this and so they sound slightly different just adds another voice on top of it and there's a close up on the slide there of what it looks like so I said root third fifth seven route at the bottom and use have a nice little triangle right there are trying with a foot which is a diamond so remember triangle ah and then diamond so triangle is third diamond is seventh and then you're good to go then there's uh ninth court's so, uh if you try to play a ninth court on the keyboard um you possibly maybe stretching your hands a little bit it'll be a little bit of work I have big hands so we still don't the's ends uh so I have big hands that's not really a problem for me but you may have small hands and so playing a knife maybe tough year going to be playing ah you're going flying your route in playing your third you're playing your seventh and then you will be adding on ninth on top of that security playing four notes at once so to play that I could do and then so it's just like a diamond with a tail and if you wantto kind of break it down in the way that we're looking kind of uh horizontally so if I do one three, five and then I'm really just going up and down on then that's seven and then that's nine so if you wanted to kind of play horizontally, you have to do some crazy like ray charles piano stuff on here or you could just play a diamond with a little tail on it and you play the night so that's the seventh with a knife above the route slightly a little bit harder to play but I don't think you would be playing knights all the way through your court progressions uh so that is a ninth cord and it looks a little bit like this just make that shape and put the little tail on just kiss you didn't see it here s o as you can see, I'm talking about numbers because when we talk about um we talk about cords and kind of the way we've been talking through this, we're not really dealing with notes were dealing with the relationships so that one could be for right now, it's in b flat, so that one is b flat. Um, and you know, if you change it to either one will be so. Those relationships are important if you're trying to translate their ease of the translate, if you just look at the key and you go online and look up, whatever. If you're in major minor, whatever sealed b flat minor, it'll tell you all the notes are in there. So if you want to actually learn, you could see, oh, that's, the three and that's, the five. Those of the actual notes? Uh, so that is a ninth court.
